    Blood test

I went along for my HbA1c this morning - booked on 14th July, as apparently today was the earliest date they could give me. Unfortunately the nurse could not get any blood! She tried both arms, then my left hand. By this time I was getting quite upset (She didn't know that my Dad died on...

Correlation of Weight Loss and Hba1C

Am I the exception that proved the rule then? My HbA1c dropped from 129 to 70 and I'd lost 6lbs. Another blood test tomorrow and I've maybe lost another kg. BMI was in the normal range to start with..

    Hereditary link with type 2

I want the award for the most dysfunctional family! After my Mum died 2 years ago one of my brother's was arrested for assaulting me in the street (with witnesses) At the time I didn't press charges (he was my brother and Mum had just died) but we haven't seen each other since. On Sunday I...

    Hereditary link with type 2

My Hba1C was 129 at diagnosis, I'm 54 and normal BMI and no one has ever mentioned the possibility of T1, so I find this quite worrying... But to bring it back on topic, my Mum, her 2 sisters, one brother and her father were all T2, but neither of my (older) brothers are.

What should I be looking for on a food label

Unfortunately it doesn't really work like that. i used to love pasta and potatoes, but since I was diagnosed in Feb I haven't eaten any. I think my health is more important than a short term treat. Instead of potatoes I have butternut squash, cut like chips or roasties. I bought a...

    Advice

For food ideas check out the book "the 8 week blood sugar diet". I found it invaluable for meal ideas when I was first diagnosed

High temperature affects on blood sugar levels

I can only speak from my experience, but I have been in Turkey for 5 weeks where the temps are similar and still climbing. I'm a type 2 on diet only and the highest reading I've had since I've been here is 7.7 :) I'm doing LCHF, which is not always easy in a foreign country, but I've stuck to...

I'm a 10 yr survivor of endometrial cancer and I can still remember the shock of getting the diagnosis. (They took my cervix along with everything else) Hope all goes well. We are all thinking of you x

    hypo and no meds?

When I was taking Gliclazide I occasionally felt shaky with 3s pre evening meal (and after eating lunch) - my DN told me to eat a slice of bread or a banana :banghead:. Today I had another drink of water, a coffee and some cheese and salami (late lunch I think) My numbers now are mostly 5-6...

    hypo and no meds?

Much to the disgust of my DN I stopped my meds about 10 days ago, and have gone away on holiday. She told me not to test at all, and I felt she was setting me up to fail. To spite her I have been really good, sticking to LCHF and my numbers have been fine, Today for breakfast I had full fat...

    Review with DN

An update after one week with no meds: muscle pain in my arms and shoulders is gone, still a bit of pain in my legs, but that is partly sciatica playing up, and probably walking too much. Tummy is pretty much normal. My numbers have been mostly 5s and 6s, with a couple of 7s (in the morning)...

    Testing

My DN told me the same, but I have ignored it. Also, if you're taking gliclazide you need to be aware that you might go too low. Another poster on here told me "if you're under 5, don't drive". If you don't test, how will you know?
