I've always felt like I don't fit in for one reason or another, so I can understand that. I'm 32 now and it's taken most of my life to be happy with who I am. I feel very lucky to have met my husband otherwise I think I'd be single for life :bag:
Hi @Petra4.4, I don't remember how I told my (now) husband about my diabetes when our relationship started as it was a long time ago now. I think if you are worried about scaring people off it's probably best to not make a big deal of your health issues. Whilst I consider my diabetes and other...
Ah, that's interesting. It was my first time getting them and they just said they had to order them in, maybe it was their first time getting them in, it's a small independent pharmacy that opened last year I think. Hmm. I'll just order them early next time and see what happens :)
I started on levothyroxine earlier this year and have found that it increases my BG by up to 4mmol when I take it, but when I pre-bolus for my breakfast I add an extra unit for the levothyroxine and that usually sorts it out by the time I'm ready for my breakfast.
My hospital appointment has been changed to a phone appointment, I get some blood tests done at my GPs but I'm not sure what's happening with those as they have 2 sites and the one I go to has been closed since March, the other site is still open but I'm not sure what you can make appointments...
Hi @sianewilson, I have also been isolating since before lockdown. I don't have any advice, I think I'm just going to have to keep plodding along and see what happens
This one works for me https://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html but this one does not https://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-to-blood-sugar-level-converter.html which is a bit confusing o_O
I put tissues and wipes that have been used to mop up blood into the bin, as well as used plasters, tampons and pads.
Obviously if you have an illness that can be passed on via blood then dispose of them in a way that poses no danger to other people.
Are you using your phone? I don't think it shows up on there. You don't have to add it, it was just a suggestion :)
It's probably already been recommended to you, but carbs and cals is really useful for seeing how many carbs are in things, I have the book but there is an app too.
Hi @S2uk87, are you carb counting or on fixed doses of insulin?
If you are carb counting then you can have any yogurt you fancy, as long as you bolus for it, if you are on fixed doses it's better to stick to the lower sugar ones, if you go for a plain one you can always add things to jazz it up...
Yes.
As I said on another of your pump threads, I only got mine after 15 years of diabetes because I wasn't waking up when I was hypo during the night. I had paramedics called for me more than once.
I was on the priority list for a pump and it still took nearly a year before I got mine.
I have a pump so only use novorapid. When I was diagnosed and for several years before lantus became available, I was on a variety of mixtards. When I was a teenager and lantus was licenced for children, I went onto that with novorapid and stayed on that until I got my pump
Have you been out in the sun?
Try using hydromol or similar. I use it on my skin conditions as a moisturiser and alternative to soap. You can use it anywhere :)
It's easy to worry about these things. It might be worth checking his blood a bit more as the weather can have a funny effect on blood sugars, or if you think his tiredness and thirst is not just down to the weather it might be worth giving his DSN or GP a ring to put your mind at rest.
Hi @Gleary85, as you say his bloods are fine, it could be the weather, has he been sleeping ok?
Sometimes I get really thirsty and I'm convinced it's because I'm high, but it turns out I'm just thirsty :hilarious:
I don't know that daktacort is the most appropriate thing to be using on a cut, it's more for fungal problems or inflamed skin as its a mild steroid. Something like germolene or savlon would be better to ensure the cut doesn't get infected. Germolene also helps to numb the wound if it's sore...
