Libre users do you use test strips aswell ?

I just started using a libre this week and have been doing 2-3 blood tests a day, just to check. My GP hasn't changed the amount of test strips I can get each month, but obviously I won't need as many as before. As yet I haven't had any guidance from the hospital on testing as my libre training...

Gluten free chicken kebab meat, carbs?

@GuidingSenses have you just started carb counting? do you have the carbs and cals book or app? I wouldn't imagine the chicken kebab itself would have many carbs in. With regards to the fish, well, I'll be honest, I have no idea how the carbs in gluten free items would differ from items...

    Newly diagnosed with type 1

Hi @Paige97, welcome to the forum. I don't know that I have any helpful tips or advice to share, it's a long time since I was diagnosed and there's so much for your partner (and you) to learn! I recommended the Bertie course to another newbie earlier today who has just been diagnosed...

    Cracked 640g pump

My original was purple, when I first got it the hospital asked what colour I wanted and what my second choice was in case my first choice was unavailable. I'm hoping I get to choose a colour when my warranty runs out later this year!

    Cracked 640g pump

Mine was 4 hours between the request being put in and it turning up at the door, I was very impressed with that! They said I had to discontinue using mine, so I'm surprised they said to put tape on yours. I'm glad you got your new one super quick anyway! Just out of interest @Seacrow, was your...

    Why so high?

It could well be the weather, I think a lot of people have increased insulin absorption when it's hot so have hypos (I think there was a thread the other day asking who else had had a hypo where it was hot) but I've never found that, and when it's particularly warm, I tend to run high

    Why so high?

Is the new insulin pen from the same batch? Have you checked your fridge temperature? Could it be stress? Hormones? The weather? Weight changed? Anything else changed?

Type 1 Corona and isolating from Husband

That's a tough situation and rubbish that you're having to make these choices :( Is your husband at a high risk of being exposed to coronavirus? Is he coming into contact with lots of people in his job? Whilst not ideal, could he sleep elsewhere in your home and keep a distance from you, unless...

32 year old male newly diagnosed type 1

Hi @Shaun*, welcome. What sort of meals were you eating before diagnosis? Are you eating the same kind of quantities as you were before? Bertie is a good course for understanding some of the basics of diabetes, I just did it last year and it helped me to understand some stuff and I've been...

    Medtronic versus Omnipod

@MicheleJC it depends on your hospital/CCG and what they will fund

    Newly diagnosed, thinking about pump

You can't wear your pump through a body scanner (medtronic, not sure about others), nor can it be x-rayed with your hand luggage, so you can get letter from your DSN or one from medtronic, I've never needed to show it, I say I have a pump, it can't go through the body scanner and sometimes you...

    Newly diagnosed, thinking about pump

Since @Capt-Slog has given lots of useful information for the other questions, I'll answer number 5. Some people choose to have a 'pump holiday' when they go away, I've never done that so perhaps if anyone has, they can advise on their reasons for doing so. My pump has been on all my holidays...

    Cannula problems

Hi @gavinbeckett, the skin tac sounds like a good start. I use a medtronic pump so I'm not familiar with Accuchek cannulas, but could it be that the cannula itself (the bit that goes under the skin, not sure if that bit's called a cannula..) is not long enough so the insulin isn't going in deep...

If you're in the UK you should ring 111 and ask them for advice, you need to get your blood sugars down, especially if it's making you unwell. Hope you get sorted.

How often do you check BG?

I just started using a libre 2 days ago so I've been scanning an awful lot (it's fascinating!) and doing an actual blood test maybe 3-4 times a day, previously it would be at least 8 times a day, sometimes up to about 15 if my bloods were being particularly hideous!

    support

I recently changed hospitals as I could easily go a year between appointments and even then, I would have to get in touch and ask for one. I got fed up of it as I was really struggling and felt I wasn't getting any support. I'm really glad I changed hospitals, my new consultant is lovely and...

    Type 1 Shielding for diabetics

I'm very fortunate that I don't have to work and my husband is self-employed and works at home, so I have been shielding since before the lockdown was announced

    Is T2 an autoimmune condition?

Not that it means anything at all, but my family have a decent number of autoimmune conditions between a few family members, but no type 2 diabetes.

    Relationships and diabetes

I'm sorry you're having a tough time @Prendy1, I have problems controlling my diabetes and whilst my husband doesn't completely understand, he is very supportive and does everything he can to help me, I can't imagine how difficult it would be without the support of your spouse. Perhaps your wife...
