Good luck with that... I quit nearly 3 years ago after being diagnosed with T2C prostate cancer and as someone else mentioned it's only after you get scared s***less that in my case worked, cold turkey. Here, marijuana is legally sold (special shops) but I am afraid to try any in case it gets me...

    Alcohol

I tried 2 shots of Kraken before bed Saturday night and it didn't seem to make a lot of difference but I also ate some nuts and my morning FBG was a bit higher than I expected (5.9 instead of 5.3). I'll test again later this week...

    Drinking/Smoking/Vaping? T2's

It's been years, but I still get a craving for Old Port Colts cigarillos (Rum soaked, wine dipped). A soon as I turn 80 I may start smoking them again...:)

T2s: What was your fasting BG this morning, and what did you eat yesterday?

Midnightrider... Thanks for the soup recipe (will substitute olive oil for canola oil), we'll have to give it a try in the next few weeks, we do make Chinese style egg drop soup, so this will be an enhanced and more sophisticated version. Blood glucose this morning at 0810 was 5.6 and food...

    Got Milk?

Coffee with 1/6 cup of milk and 1 packet of "Splenda" (artificial sweetener) for the rare times when I drink mixed coffee. Otherwise, black tea or black coffee, used to love to drink straight cream though...

T2s: What was your fasting BG this morning, and what did you eat yesterday?

Well, they do make you feel like you are somewhat still in control of your life, and as my measurements indicate, they definitely do not cause an increase in blood glucose levels, therefore they must be low carbohydrate snacks, n'est-ce pas?

    Honey yes or no

Honey, corn syrup and maple syrup are all lumped in the same "Do Not Eat" bin along with the other sugars, but I'll trade them all for a nice steak or even a hamburger on lettuce...

    Alcohol

Tequila and carbonated water with a lemon chunk is pretty nice for me, but rum and diet Pepsi/Coke is also a favourite (favorite?). Anything that does not make your blood glucose go up is OK, so some experimentation is likely in order. We Canadians get to spell our words in Bringlish and...

Advice on GP refusing to give test strips?

I'm surprised that the health care system in the UK is so picky about those testing strips, your system is allegedly #18 in the world, whereas ours in Canada is about #30 or so (WHO numbers). The meters here are free but you have to buy the strips which is also borderline insanity. It just is...

You are 20 times more likely to have an amputation...

My GP told me that whatever works is the correct path to follow. Here in Alberta the monitor was free as long as you buy 100 test strips ($65 CDN) and they were covered except for $15 by my insurance. I am amazed at medical advice negating the value of constant testing, I am sure I would be dead...

Well, I've just ordered Dr Jason Fung The Diabetes Code book

A great read presented in easy to understand language and terminology. Best of all, you don't have to buy anything to get started and/or to maintain your progress, although a blood glucose monitor will help you to verify that you are on the correct path. Certainly makes you wonder about all the...

    Alcohol

Have found that sweet liquers (sambuca, Bailey's) and beers like my favourites "Guiness" and "Traditional" make blood sugars rise uncomfortably so limit beer consumption to one per week. Red wine (dry) and hard liquor do not seem to appreciably increase blood glucose levels but then again I...
