    Carbs

I completely agree on the return to old habits. When I look back I was obese and eating to excess, with little to no exercise. Whilst I have reintroduced carbs, the portion size has been considerably smaller, in addition I'm not eating deserts or drinking beer etc. + I'm (if the machines are...

    Carbs

To be honest I've got no idea if it was carbs that caused previous spikes. I was diagnosed with a HB1AC score of 54. I found out about being diabetic and stumbled upon this site, which has honestly been a life saver. The low carb route got my BG under control in a week. I've lost 4 1/2 stone...

    Carbs

Thanks for the info, I'll check after longer intervals as well next time. I did check the next day and it was 5.2, but I do seem to get the dawn phenomenon. I'll grab a copy of that book. I'm completely accepting that I might not be able to eat particular foods.

    Carbs

Apologies if I'm not explaining myself properly. I'm adamant I will maintain the weight loss and excercise. At this point in time I can tolerate more carbs. For example last night I ate spaghetti Bolognese and garlic bread, I checked before hand 4.8, 1 hour after 5.2 and 2 hours 4.7. I'm...

    Carbs

Thankyou for the responses. I'm not claiming to be cured at all, at this point in time I seem to have got to the point I can tolerate carbs again. With regards to diet, id prefer to eat a balanced diet (when I reflect back I had been over eating for years). My main concern is, will this...

    Carbs

After finding out I had diabetes I took the excellent advice on this forum and went low carb + an hour of exercise a day. Over 3 months I've lost a considerable amount of weight and all BG are now well in the normal range. The last few weeks I've been testing what I can tolerate carb wise. It...

    Roasting Veg

Sorry that should have read Glycemic value. Thanks for the tips.

    Roasting Veg

Quick question: I've read that roasting sweet potatoes changes their glycolic value. Is this the same for parsnips, carrots, onions, celeriac. Cheers Adrian

    A few more questions....

I could tick any of those boxes, dad's got prediabities, I take blood pressure meds and overweight! Thanks for the meter tip, I'll get one ordered. My slightly obsessive testing was starting to become an expensive habit.

    A few more questions....

Thanks for the responces. With regards to sweet potato, I meant it as a substitute for bread, pasta, rice and potato.

    A few more questions....

Sorry one more question. I was prescribed statins and have blindly taken them for 8 years, without ever questioning what they did. After doing tons of reading on here (I didn't realise the negative side effecrs), I now think I'm going to knock them on the head. Any thoughts?

    A few more questions....

Hi guys, first off a massive thankyou to the people posting and sharing your knowledge and experiences. After a H1AC result of 54 2 1/2 months ago. I decided to reject drugs and try to lose weight, exercise and restrict carbs. I started on a super low carb diet and managed to control BG very...

    A few more questions....

Thankyou for your response. Is it something I need to address, I did turn down taking metformin. Would someone without diabetes have a spike, or would their body just produce more insulin? apologies about all the questions.

    A few more questions....

I was diagnosed approximately 2 months ago, with a H1AC score of 52 and 49. I started daily exercise and LC diet, I've lost 3 1/2 stone. All blood sugars have been normal (apart from the dawn phenomenon, which adds 1.0, for a few hours). Then this morning wham FBG 7.9, which lowered to 6.9...

    A couple more questions

I've found this forum a god send and really appreciate all the feedback from my first posts and the feedback to other posts. Bit of background: I was diagnosed with Diabites 5 weeks ago, with a first H1AC score of 52 and a 2nd 10 H1AC score of 49 days later. Since then I've followed a low...

Thanks for the reply. I'd done a bit of reading about the dawn phenomenon. I'll give the nuts/cheese a go and then a coffee. Whilst I appreciate not a very good solution, a bottle of wine the night before seems to work (i'm not planning this as a long term solution).
