    Coconut fat to treat Diabetes?

Creamed coconut whilst very nice, is not coconut oil. There is oil in it of course, but it is mainly the flesh or coconut meat. For some reason none of the major supermarkets sell the oil - I tell a lie, Morrisons are selling a small jar of organic virgin coconut oil but it is over £8! If...

Were you given Antibiotics prior to your health problems?

Absolutely Pickwick. Antibiotics are being thrown at us from every available source - even fish doesn't escape it now if it is farmed (and you don't always know!). It gets into the water and into the food. They talk about not knowing what the 'long-term' effects would be of a low-carb regime...

    BYETTA

Re: Anyone use Byetta? I was on it for three months from July to October 2007. I think I was a bit of an experiment. Apparently though, according to Eli Lilly I shouldn't have been put on it because I was already on insulin. I did waver a bit when I told the DS I would do some research on it...

    Low Carb Diet Help

Here's my chip......... You may find that you need to up the fats to compensate for the lower carbs. The body needs fuel for energy - if it can't get enough from carbs or fats, it may well end up burning its own muscle tissue! Yes, you need to watch the amount you eat, but even on higher fat...

    Dietitian talks of Carbohydrate Management!!!!!

I never meant to infer that I 'know it all', simply that I can't assume that so-called 'professionals' always do. Over my lifetime I have heard and read far more sensible stuff from people who don't have letters after their name. A student is only as good as his teacher, and many only follow...

    Dietitian talks of Carbohydrate Management!!!!!

Yeah me too. The one and only time I ever saw a dietician put me off ever seeing one again. I don't need their advice - I know what is best for my body - why do they treat us as if we are all idiots? Who says they are right anyhow? Everything is based on opinion. What gives them the right...

    Let's not twist history...........

Yes Hana they were, but, as I have pointed out in the 'antibiotics' thread, we have now entered the terrifying stage where we have 'superbugs' and no antibiotics that will destroy them. This has happened off the back of the antibiotics' own success. More people die every year from MRSA than...

    Let's not twist history...........

That is why I would rather look at the diets of those cultures alive today that are still relatively well and healthy, than try and figure out what our ancestors ate. Interestingly though, the cultures that still eat their traditional diet, are the ones that generally do not suffer with our...

    Stomach bypass cures Diabetes...........

As I have mentioned on a couple of other threads, it seems that SIBO is an issue for many (if not all) of those with gut-related (and indeed other) health issues. Certainly diabetics have problems with it (try Googling 'diabetes SIBO) and whilst the Medical answer is, of course, antibiotics, it...

    Coconut fat to treat Diabetes?

I just wanted to say that whilst I have had good benefits from taking coconut oil and will continue to take it, I do think its' consumption needs to be balanced. I too doubt the integrity of the 'MCTs cause fatty deposits in the liver' hypothesis - certainly any fats eaten in conjunction with a...

Were you given Antibiotics prior to your health problems?

Thanks so much for the rip-roaring giggle Spiral. That was pretty classic! Hana - yes, I do believe that antibiotics save lives, but I also feel that they are something of a double edged sword, dispensing help on one hand but damage of some kind or another on the other. I am sure that if you...

A Low Carb Diet Worked for Me

Yes, some people cope ok with Spelt and Rye - they are lower in gluten so if your reaction is not too bad you might be ok with it. I tried it and got my normal gluten reaction so that didn't work for me, but I wouldn't put anyone else off trying it.

Were you given Antibiotics prior to your health problems?

Undoubtedly diet has played its part - if you have read any of my other posts you will also see that that I believe that the very high-carbohydrate Western Diet has played it's part in fuelling the epidemic rise of obesity and diabetes, etc., but the fact that there are people out there who...

Were you given Antibiotics prior to your health problems?

I think your last sentence says it all. Yes, getting thrush after taking antibiotics is very common and the IBS is a reaction to that. After all the antibiotics kill the gut bacteria both bad and good but don't touch the yeasts. That gives them house room and nothing to defend the gut from...

    Gluten, SIBO and Diabetes connections

I had 'growing pains' as a child as did my daughter. She also used to get night terrors as a child which were pretty distressing. I knew that somehow it was connected to her diet but didn't know what or why. Her gluten-induced issues are more mental than physical with depression and acute...

    Gluten, SIBO and Diabetes connections

Well, for me the Restless Leg Syndrome was linked to the gluten, and dumping that stopped the RLS, and the burning feet, and the IBS-D and the awful stomach pain. Although I actually had to educate my Doctor about Celiac Disease, even lending her a book on it, she now appears to have genned up...

    Gluten, SIBO and Diabetes connections

Hi Suzi. Yes for me the gluten thing had been an issue for many years - I just didn't fathom that it was the gluten that was the problem. My Mum was type 1 and Coeliac was only picked up on in her about 4 weeks before she died which was pretty criminal. I just wish I knew all this back then...

    Fasting levels

Hi. I'm presuming from your post that you yourself are not Diabetic but have just picked up on this through your husband's testing? Most people's blood sugar will go up some after eating, especially if they have eaten carbs. It's the response time that is important and how well and how fast...

Were you given Antibiotics prior to your health problems?

Sorry to say, the poll system didn't really do what I hoped it would, but you live and learn. Not sure if I can take it off now. I do feel that antibiotics may have their place and be necessary in certain circumstances - I for one would not like to be faced with something like Necrotising...
