    Which course???

Rigid is probably more to do with”rules” and “guidelines”. It is quite structured which suits me but others do find it constrictive. Eg DAFNE says not to go to bed with a BGL less then 6 (so if your BGL is less then that then you have to eat something with carbs in it). My personal experience...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

FBG 7.3 today. Headed in the right direction at least. Lunch time 5.8 which is pretty average... just that pesky morning FBG.

    Which course???

Hi Squeebo84 I did DAFNE last month and found meeting others and the shared experiences/stories to be the most helpful part. I’m abit of nerd so already was on top of most of the content but still found it useful. The approach can be quite rigid and doesn’t suit everybody - try to remember you...

Type 1 Experience with “Unavailable Carbohydrate”

Interesting you mention about not keeping the BGL elevated.... 2 hours after I took a correction (Usual factor of 1:2.5) my BGL dropped significantly to 5.3 then to 4.3 an hour later.

Type 1 Experience with “Unavailable Carbohydrate”

Bit of a shame since they tasted good and had a nice texture for me but for the price i’d rather a few regular lollies or popcorn and just bolus for it. Good experiment though and something to keep in mind when I try other items with similar labels

Type 1 Experience with “Unavailable Carbohydrate”

Ugh it was too good to be true. Result I guess speaks for itself. Seems they were available ... well for my body anyway. BGL before lunch was 6.1 and lunch carb count was pretty safe with usual bolus.

Type 1 Experience with “Unavailable Carbohydrate”

Hi All, Not sure if this is the right section to post this question so moderators feel free to shift. I have only recently come across food items (mainly sweets) with “Unavailable Carbohydrate” listed on the Nutrition Information Panel. A quick google suggests it should have minimal effect on...

What Glucose meter does everyone use?

Libre Reader here. Assume it is accurate enough. I was alittle curious and did a finger prick test before my last blood test and it was only about .2mmol difference.

I’m actually an Aussie! I just find this forum so much better and more interactive then the Australian version. I definitely still love my carbs and usually find carb heavy pasta/potato meals easier to dose for then some meals with hidden carbs. One advantage of T1 eat what you want just dose...

My Carb Counting eating out is usually pretty good but I sure do make mistakes sometimes. The course actually helped me to be less hard on myself and experiment more. I still like to peruse the menu at home first and try and pick an easy meal to add up - but also “wing it” on occassion.

DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) is an adult education course for people with Type 1 diabetes run in several countries around the world. While the principles and guidelines are often questioned (by some on these forums) i found it very useful learning from the experience of the other...
