    Anyone remember these syringes?

Found it. It is actually 1971 (well nearly 50 years old) It called Living with Diabetes (A guide for new Diabetics) Issued by the Welcome Foundation. Great photos of a woman injecting into her thigh and photos showing all the different types of Insulin Vials we used back then. The standard...

    Anyone remember these syringes?

Yep.. The boiling up to steralise and the metal needles that resembled javelins that were so solid they could break off once inside your flesh!. And the urine testing with those caustic tablets that could burn through to the Antipodes if you spilt any on the floor! Strangely I actually loved...

Hypo treatment - restoring 0/ lo sugar drinks to full sugar

Normally wine gums, fruit pastilles, fruit jellies (anything jelly like) as sweets but my number 1 treatment has always been lucozade. I always carry a small bottle in my work bag. Any symptoms of going low, a couple of large gulps and 5 minutes later all is ok again.

Feeling rough 24 hours post Hypo

My Hypos if bad leave me shaky for a couple of hours and will always leave me with an hideous headache right above my eyes. The headache can last half a day. Symptoms have changed over the years (36) when low but the shakiness and headaches remain as they have all my diabetic life.

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

Type 1 - Pancreas stops producing insulin so it needs to be injected. Type 2 - Pancreas produces a little insulin but it is not utilized properly so medication is needed to stimulate the panreas to produce more. A bit like whipping a horse towards the end of a race to make it run that little...

    Insulin correction

I will normally give a little more or a little less insulin depending on what I am about to eat, I think experience more than anything else is the factor here in getting it right and personally would not advise anyone if in their early days to practice this unless they are totally sure they no...

Alcohol, high Blood Glucose before sleep then severe hypo seizure

Hello BIGAnnie, This was common place for me. I was a drinker of the "couldn't stop" category and I would have the most terrifying Hypos in the early hours of the morning 2,3,4am ish. I wouldn't be able to talk, would be semi paralyzed down one side, severe cold sweats and confusion that was...

Sudden cold sensitivity in tooth that was filled a month ago.

If it hurts when you bite on it then it probably has an infection. This has happened to me after having a tooth filled. Three days later when eating some crisps I nearly went through the roof! It had got infected during the treatment. Have to say I wasn't very happy as in the end I had to have...
