    Pre proliferative retinopathy scare.

I have struggled to write this reply as I felt I needed to as I was like you a while ago!! Any eye treatment is daunting, and you don't yet know what is required so I wouldn't freak out just yet until you know..An awful lot of long time diabetics need a little lasering at times and believe me it...

New here, concerned and need reassurance (eyesight and leg pain)

I can relate to you @samowen268 and you are most certainly not the only one to have neglected their type 1 in their youth! I have read many posts in my time on this forum and I too had a less than perfect time in my teenage years and early twenties. Good news about your eyes though and that...

    Rosacea

I had rosacea in my early twenties and then again in my early thirties and after trying many different things I ended up taking long term anti biotics, oxytetracycline for it (roughly about 3 months), It was the only thing that worked and did a second time. I have not needed them since but I...

Why do people with diabetes have black scarring?

I am not usually outspoken on this forum, but it may be a fact for your mum but it is most certainly not for ALL diabetics!! I am sorry to hear that your mum is scarring in this way but and it may be worth investigating further but it is not the norm for all diabetics as I am sure you have...

    Snacking

That's interesting as I am a crisp addict too!! I have friends that are chocoholics but I can leave chocolate for months! I got given an Easter Egg this year by my employer and I still have it intact! Savoury snacks on the other hand... Mums aye? My mum has made reference to said Easter Egg...

    Snacking

Snacks are just great aren't they? You reach a moment in the day when you stop, maybe have a cuppa and just like everybody else (the non diabetic population) a little snack would be nice. It seems everybody does it, it feels normal, at work, at home with the family, just a quick biscuit...I am...

    Read the label stupid....

I love Lidls but their products do need some scrutiny! I always forget to take my reading glasses and have had some duds too! I'm not particularly on a low carb diet but I am carb conscious and buy things that are lower in carbs and too have come a cropper with the yogurt!

    Steroids

Thanks @catapillar, wish I'd read your post earlier! took a couple of extra units with breakfast and promptly crashed! Not too much of a rise so far and feeling slightly better for it so I'm hoping the steroids will sort the problem now! Thank you for your reply it has been reassuring!

    Steroids

Thanks @Odin004, yes I always try to adjust carbs in periods of high BG. I felt I did exhaust all other medication including 4 antihistimines a day and steroid creams but it just seems to be on the march! I started this morning and have tested vigorously and haven't actually had much rise yet...

    Steroids

Thank you @Odin004 that is interesting and a supplementation is well worth thinking of. I am worried about the impact on my diabetes but I have been type 1 for a while now and am just preparing myself for the onslaught! I have reached the point in my skin complaint where I would do anything to...

    Lantus timing

I used to take split dose Lantus morning and the majority at night but crashed during the night, not always massively but enough to cause havoc with morning readings. I decided to try and switch the majority of it to the morning and like you did it unit by unit until I actually only take it in...

    Steroids

I have just been prescribed Prednisolone tablets for an allergic skin reaction I have been suffering from for about four weeks that is getting worse instead of better. The G.P I saw said I really needed them, I reminded him I'm type 1 and he asked if I tested regularly, I said about 8 times a...

Need to watch my mouth when my BG starts to drop

I can relate to that! When I was a teenager I could be really nasty when hypo, on the odd occasion as a forty something I can still be short with family and such! I work for myself, but I still find being alone, I can get short tempered with not being able to do things that I need to be able to...

    Pregnancy and an awkward job

Do your employers know that you are pregnant? That can make a difference. When I was pregnant and like you were sat concentrating on work, I quite often felt sick in the early days but my work mates were great and bought me ginger biscuits to help when I felt rough, I think as I was still...

    Bad Hypo in Public

I would say that is very normal to feel so low after such an incident! I really feel for you! I have had a few hypos in public that have panicked me much more than they would of done in the comfort of my own home. All I can say is test loads! Before you go out, may give you some confidence but...

    Injection sites

I was like you and running out of sites, still am if I'm honest, I can no longer get results out of my arms. I have discovered my buttocks!!! My basal usually goes there or the sides of my thighs and I'm surprised at how comfortable it is!!! bolus is still the trusty abdomen but I wish there was...

Who is troubled by injecting in public? Just me?

I have never found it hard injecting in public, that's not to say I blatantly advertise it. Being an old-timer when syringes and drawing up was necessary I never looked back with the pen! I do however remember as an 11 year old on said 'old' regime going on a BDA (British Diabetic Association)...

Neuropathy - fingers, hands, wrists and forearms

I suffer from something called diabetic cheiroarthropathy, which effects my joints in my fingers causing pain and locking, sometimes triggering. I am being treated with steroid injections at the moment but I can relate to what you are saying as at times I feel numbness and weakness when holding...

Advised to reuse lances? Is that right?

Don't change mine very often! When I first had a drum type lancet I thought I would but alas I just pick the pricker up and go, occasionally I think I may of been on number 6 a while now perhaps I'll move it on.

Advised to reuse lances? Is that right?

I used to have those and have actually found many other uses for them!! Probably shouldn't but their stubbiness means they are sometimes useful where a pin just won't work! Maybe I'm just too practical but I can't imagine that no one else has not had a use for the trusty lancet?....
