    Covid and diabetes

Hi, I am type 1 & had covid in October 2020. Initially thought I had a sinus infection but then very quickly I lost my sense of taste & smell & head was pounding. Diabetes wise I initially suffered more hypos than normal which was strange I don't recall high BG's which would be normal with...

    Considering returning to insulin pens

Yep, you are spot on. We all need a sounding board at times to bounce off of. My target range on my libre is set at 3.9-10 & last 7 days 85% in target, 14 days 82%, 30 days 83%, 90 days 78%. So a massive improvement. I am going to try & keep focussing on this rather than the % highs & lows. I...

Sorry I am no expert but personally I would take the lower fat option that I still enjoyed x

    Worrying all the time

I think a gall stone flare up should be best avoided & try & find calories from other sources, maybe nuts?

    Considering returning to insulin pens

Thank you Juicy J for your kind & wise words: I was resistant to using a pump due to tubing until I was offered the omnipod dash & then I was super excited. We were warned that the first month would be a lot of work, was 100% prepared for this, next review was it will be easier soon. I am a bit...

    Considering returning to insulin pens

Thanks sleepster. The pump team didn't handle the expectations of our wee group too well. It was within a month you'll never look back, you'll have it all worked out within 2 months, you'll feel better in 3 months. Anyway, it is what it is maybe just not for me. Thanks again.

    Considering returning to insulin pens

Thank you for your response. I have multiple basal rates set up throughout a working day & another rate for weekends, I do get a few great days & then some rubbish days. I'm just feeling a bit fed up & burnt out. Will speak to my NHS team tomorrow. Thanks again x

    Considering returning to insulin pens

I appreciate your comments & way of thinking. I just find it way harder to manage. I think the main difference is my body seemed to prefer the slow & fast acting insulin. I am going to call my team tomorrow & suggest I try 2 weeks back on pens before I decide what's best for me. Thank you for...

    Considering returning to insulin pens

Has anyone else considered returning to insulin pens? I had a decent Hba1c of 51 before commencing omnipod dash in early March this year. Libre is showing current 48 which is great but I am finding the day to day usage of pump such a struggle, especially busy weekends & this hot weather. When...

Type 1 What is the best Diabetes Clinic in reach of Glasgow?

I think you will likely be a patient at the QEUH but I don't have first hand experience of this clinic. A work colleague attends QEUH & speaks highly of them.

    The heat

When I used insulin pens with lantus & novorapid it didn't affect me. Been using omipod dash since March so only using novorapid now & my blood glucose now plummets in the sun. Strangely it only seems to be if sitting in the sun rather than feeling hot. I reduce my basal by 30% now but that was...

Omnipod Dash falls off when wet/sweaty!

Hi Kate, I was lucky on the pens & had a pretty much smooth road. I'm 4 months in & only really getting to grips with it now. Have you tried extended bolus to stop food spikes? I extend all my teatime boluses now (largest carb meal) & it really helps. If having a lunchtime sandwich also extend...

Omnipod Dash falls off when wet/sweaty!

I was the same with a pod on Ssturday when hot & sweaty. Pod was also on my tummy. I moved it to my upper arm & its been ok. I hate it showing on my upper arm but it is sticking better. I have been on the pump since March & would love to hear how it is working for you. I've found it quite a...

    Carb counting

Hi, buy the carbs & cals book. Can't recommend it enough. It literally has thousands of meals weighed & carb counted. It has been my bible for years now. You'll get it on Amazon.

T1 for 27 years finally offered a pump, but which to choose?

Hi, I am 3 months in to omnipod dash. I believe the new omnipod is not licensed yet in UK. There are a lot of pros & cons to this pump but overall it does make life easier. The medical staff will probably tell you that you will have the hang of it after a month. In reality I would suggest 3-6...
