    When to test after eating

Ideally your looking for no more than a 2-3mmol rise 2 hours post meal so 2.5mmol at 1 hour still isn't anything to worry about, perhaps if your worried about that then a short walk after the meal may help lessen the spike at 1 hour xx

Feeling a bit abandoned by system

Hi :) it is better to get levels down slowly and gradually than get it down right away as it can cause extra strain on the body that way it also may take a while for your body to settle to now using insulin and results really aren't instant unfortunately Are you keeping an eye on your ketones...

    Lantus to Tresiba

Hi unfortunately I can't comment on a switch as I have no experience with any other basal as I was put straight onto Tresiba at diagnosis I find it very effective at keeping me stable in the absence of food and also I haven't had it sting at all, mine goes into my bum cheek (sorry for the tmi!)...

Type 1 & the Contraceptive Pill

I was on the depo injection for years since I had a miscarriage and it was great, recently in my area though there are some practices that were having trouble getting hold of it so it was changed to Sayana Press which imo is actually better as you don't need an appointment for it as its self...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.8 for me this morning, completely fine with me though as I did reduce every bolus yesterday due to excitement and 3 miles walking attending the Harley Davidson in the city event, what a great day although my back is suffering today, decided we'd be big kids for once (me and my partner) so went...

    Urgent query

i would've advised another test, If you are on hypo causing medications then treat it with glucose, if on metformin take a biscuit, did you feel low? There wouldn't be a need to call anyone for a reading of 3.7, if I were to do that it would cost the NHS a lot of money, only ever call for help...

How many insulin units do you take?

Pump users only use a fast acting insulin and get it set correct for different times of the day to tick them over so in a pump users case novorapid isn't just a bolus insulin

    Blood sugar monitoring

yes that is probably the reason, you need the basal to keep you ticking over when your not consuming carbs etc so if that's wrong or in your case sometimes non existent then you don't have that coverage meaning corrections aren't going to work correctly, the basal really is the most important to...

Had a very bad hypo last night (1.8) now this morning I am up to 23. Tips?

This is intriguing me as you mention a post meal reading To me post meal suggests the 2 hour after eating mark and this subject was brought up elsewhere yesterday, I wouldn't correct 2 hours after eating as the insulin already in your system can last 4-5 hours whereas others were taking a...

    i need help

First I'd go to the dr and see what might actually be wrong with your foot, you might be jumping to conclusions, I am very careful as even before I was diabetic I had nerve damage to a toe because of an accident Do you not have a team that you could talk with about your concerns? A dietician...

    Am I being unreasonable

I can and do carb count, I'm self taught and the team were happy with that a month after I was diagnosed as set doses were too strong and I was constantly hypo and a full unit correction was also too much so I have the benefit of a half unit pen too, my levels are just playing up at the minute...
