What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

For my tea tonight I had an air-fried sirloin steak, fried mushrooms and steamed broccoli & cauliflower. I quite enjoyed it too.

All three, really. The belly pork was dry. The sprouts, despite being fresh, were quite tasteless. And the mash didn't taste much like mash. I realise that this could all be due to a lack of smell (and taste) due to my recent Covid infection. However I'll write this meal off as a bad job.

I did it with sprouts and starch-resistant mash. Whereas it wasn't inedible, it was hugely disappointing.

    I *love* Jaffa cakes! :)

I'm not @Mrs T 123, @LivingLightly, but you're probably thinking of Coke Zero. They both have Aspartame and Acesulfame-K as sweeteners. I have Pepsi Max as a mixer with a vodka occasionally, but wouldn't drink either normally.

I'm feeling better tonight, thanks @LivingLightly. It's just a cold, really - I had one last Covid test, so I took it, and that's how I know. I really wouldn't recommend my frozen curry. I admit I was swayed a bit by the packaging, only to be let down by the stuff inside. Never mind, onwards...

I'm doing pork belly tomorrow. Let's see how it goes.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I had a beef madras this evening. It was from Iceland; I didn't make it, and if I did I wouldn't have put a four chilli rating on it! Covid has visited me this week, so I haven't felt much like cooking. However I did add my own mushrooms, and had it with fried cauliflower rice.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

It was only half a pouch, @LivingLightly. I froze the other half for next time. I like cauliflower rice, but not with curries, unfortunately.

Lunch was Greek yoghurt, a Braeburn apple and a few Brazil nuts. Dinner was a home made beef Madras (ish) with a small portion of basmati rice.

    Greek Yoghurt Shortage?

I just bought a tub of 10% from Lidl. No shortage that I could see.

    Sourdough Bread And Diabetes

I think it was slightly smaller. Plus it had more holes in. Plus I had one extra rasher of bacon in it. And I used a different frying pan... ;) But I'm quite pleased with the result.

    Sourdough Bread And Diabetes

Well I had the same sarnie again, this time using the fresh artisan sourdough. My reading before was 5.1, and 6.2 two hours later. So that's a bit better.

    Gastric reflux question

I've been learning to listen to my off switch. Thanks for that info @AndBreathe.

    Gastric reflux question

It could be. But I was after a more scientific explanation.

    Gastric reflux question

Like I said, there has only been one occurrence of it in the last year or so. But that's interesting. I've heard a few low carb advocates, for example Dr Berry, saying that low carb cures acid reflux. But they didn't explain why. Maybe you have a point.

Today's lunch was a lamb shank in red wine sauce, with starch-resistant Maris Pipers, sprouts and cauliflower & broccoli.

    Gastric reflux question

I used to think it was buttery mash and buttery crumpets which used to set mine off. But I now know (one of) the culprits. Any idea of why though?

    Gastric reflux question

I don't intend to. But what is it about the high carb / UPF rubbish that causes it?

    Gastric reflux question

I used to suffer from gastric reflux. I used to get it several times a week. In fact I used to keep a packet of antacids on the bedside cabinet to take when it woke me up. But since going low carb it disappeared completely. It's only come back once: when I had a blip, and ate two sausage rolls...
