    Home lipid test, any recommendations?

@AndBreathe thank you so much, that sounds a very viable option for this cost. As you might have already read in my other post that in an effort to control my a1c and being on low-carb diet, i have raised my LDL to 9.5 :) . I could control my diabetes with the help of test strips so thought now...

Type 2 Cholesterol / Lipid profile after low-carb

One more question, that being on very low carb diet, i was expecting my TGs to go below 1, however i see the improvement only from 1.9 to 1.6. Is that a reasonable achievement in 5 months? I am satisfied for my HDL going from 0.88 to 1.2 as i know its hard to raise HDL than to lower TGs.

Thank you for sharing the info. How off was the Veri-q reading compared to your lab reading? Can you give example of both readings? 20% is a standard deviation in all these strips anyway which is legally accepted.

    Home lipid test, any recommendations?

Hi there. I am just looking at some home test strips for total cholesterol and other lipid profiles. There are tons of options on Amazon but i am not certain which one is most accurate. Because of my recent high LDL, i need to see the affect of my changed diet (reducing sat fat) regularly, i...

Type 2 Cholesterol / Lipid profile after low-carb

Hi guys, i initially thought the same as the ratios whether in mg or mmol should be the same if divided in any units, and was happy with my low ratio however then i bumped into this calculator page https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/cholesterol-units and it explains why we can't calculate...

Type 2 Cholesterol / Lipid profile after low-carb

That is really useful information and exactly the case i am going through. However, i intended to increase my fat intake in the last couple of months to see how this affects my LDL, which rose to double. I have been eating clotted cream, double cream in coffee/team, full fat soft cheese cheese...

Type 2 Cholesterol / Lipid profile after low-carb

Hi I guess you need to calculate tg/hdl ratio on mg/dl only because of the conversion factors. So My tg/hdl ratio in Dec was 4.94 and now it is at 3. So still its improving. I have a question though, is it a good increase in HDL from 0.88 to 1.2 in 6 months?

Type 2 Cholesterol / Lipid profile after low-carb

@Mbaker thanks. I got rid of all my belly fat and insulin resistance back in March. I did a fasting Insulin level test which came back at 3. I have started more vigorous jogging, improving my VO2 max and already doing resistance training since couple of months (due to lockdown). I will reduce...

@Ronancastled thank you but the irony is that to fix one thing you must mess up the other. They don't come all together ever?

Type 2 Cholesterol / Lipid profile after low-carb

So here is the result I have been waiting for. Expectedly LDL went high, though I was not expecting it to go that high. HDL has improved and TGs have decreased. What do you make of this result? I am on 30-40 gm carb/day diet and been enjoying full fat cheese, nuts and cream etc. I also lost...

    Keto diet and medication reduction

Also to remember how far have you reduced your insulin resistance as that might be playing a role. You can do a morning insulin level test after 12 hours fast and your BG levels at the same time, this will give you a good picture of your IR. I stopped my Metformin cold turkey three months back...

    Type 2 Blood pressure fluctuations

Hi @LaoDan that makes sense. Probably i need to stick to a fixed time to understand the readings better. I use my BP readings and of course my BG readings as a measure of how my metabolic health is working. So any changes gives me an alarm that something somewhere is not right. for BGs, its easy...

    Type 2 Blood pressure fluctuations

Just a quick one. Since i have started managing my BGs, my BP went from 140s/90s to 117/75 range. However, they day i eat outside particularly food cooked in vegetable oils or even small amount of bread, the next day i notice my BP creeping to 128/85. Does such foods affect BP this fast within a...

    Encouraging results I think ?

Congrats, that's remarkable results within 10 weeks. I reduced my a1c in 3 months from 78 to 34, but i was on really VLC diet and partly it improved after i improved my insulin resistance. I was outside UK so was able to test my fasting insulin levels to understand my resistance and the number...

Baseline BG Levels - Strange phenomenon

Thank you. Well that is another way to look at it. I have started 2 days fasting a week so that should give my body a taste of below 5s sugar level because after 12-14 hours, i normally go low 4s.

Baseline BG Levels - Strange phenomenon

Thank you for this. If you go to low 4s or 3s and have a1c in 30s, i would suspect you have a higher spike after meals? On my low carb diet i can maintain my BG 24 hours pretty much in a narrow range 5.5-6.5 about 98% of the time. Does this help?

Baseline BG Levels - Strange phenomenon

Hi guys, i have a quick question about a phenomenon that i am unable to understand so would be very helpful if you guys can share your personal experience or any studies on this. I am T2, was diagnosed with an a1c of 78 in Dec 2020 and managed to bring my a1c to close to 30. I am on a low-carb...

    Fasting readings

Mine is close to 5 normally after few months of low-carb. But i noticed it has lot to do with what you had to eat the night before. If you have a heavy protein meal, my mornings will cross 6. If you have moderate protein and even few berries, that makes a quick spike and then sugar goes back to...
