You can eat your normal diet

Yeah, I had a couple of years of eating my normal diet with T2, my meds were upped and upped, then insulin was added and upped and upped. Granted I didn’t have any diabetes complications, but as I’m only 30 not 80 I felt they were guaranteed. Changing my diet has meant I’ve stopped meds and...

    Got the Freestyle Libre today!

Some people use dressings like tegaderm, or kesiology sports tape, this has the added bonus of improving the waterproofing of the sensor. There are also armbands that are made to fit the libre, (search for libre sensor armband on Amazon). Another thing is that some people wear them on the inside...

    Side effects of Cauli Rice

I’m sure if you looked online enough, you’d find something bad about every single food item. Causing issues with organs, illness and cancers.

    What times to test

If the nurse is limiting you to 2 tests a day, and you aren’t able to buy extra strips, I’d vary the times you test. Day 1: straight away as you wake up, and just before bed, (nurse likes them readings) Day 2: before first bite of breakfast, and 2 hours after eating Day 3: before first bite of...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Well I fell off the wagon yesterday, gotta pick myself up and carry on. Started with a hypo yesterday afternoon, I’m thinking the extra energy use and exertion Saturday may have been involved. Then I listened to the carers who insisted shakes weren’t enough I needed to have some food, only...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Hi everyone. Yesterday was fabulous! I got there about 11, and stayed to about 5pm. Everyone was so colourful, we saw the parade from the side of the road it just went on and on and on... there was a 3 music stages, the main one was too loud, feel it inside your body loud, so I steered clear of...

    Diagnosed type 2 on Thursday

Everything he said sounded normal (not necessarily correct) for a doctor to say up until “eat low carb”! Your hab1c is high at over 120, 48 and above is considered diabetic, between 42 and 47 is pre-diabetic, so aiming for low 40s is good. (Numbers from memory, and my brains not functioning...

    Colonoscopy

You could try 111, give them a call and ask for a call back from someone medically trained to give insulin dosing advice it’s likely to be a loooooong wait as it’s a bank holiday weekend. Maybe phone first thing and keep your phone on you throughout the day. I don’t know how helpful they will...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

I’m gonna join in with this thread please, if you will all have me. Last week I was 73.6 kg, and yesterday I was 70.9kg. Not really focused on weight loss, just want to improve my sugar levels, but I’m intrigued to keep track of my weight.

    Newly diagnosed type 2

For yogurt I find Arla Protein yogurts pretty good. There’s 5-7.5g per 100g carbs and they are a nice large 200g pot so don’t feel hungry.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

A part of me wants to send a message to DUK as a type 2 with terrible complications from diabetes who’s never heard of low carb and ask them if what the sun is saying that low carb is good advice. And if they sun is saying it why aren’t my diabetic nurse. See what DUK say then. Just play a...

    Bruising

Doesn’t help you, but I’m just the same, after about a year on insulin I now get some areas that really sting when I put in the needle. Once injected I have a small hard lump that’s quite sore for an hour or two. If I find a spot that doesn’t sting I don’t get this lump.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

@Debandez that article was brilliant. Kinda a shame the sun put a DUK video of someone saying breakfast is important I have toast and grapefruit at the end of it though! 5.4 this morning for me. Looking forward to going out today. Everyone have a good day!

Do insulin pens freeze in cargo area?

If your taking medication and medical supplies you should take them in the cabin with you. You should be allowed another small bag if it’s solely medical essentials ie medication and testing supplies.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Well, that’s what’s prescribed, and they are meant to encourage meds compliance. But common sense SHOULD dictate reasonable numbers don’t need insulin. Therefore reporting me to the doctor for failure to take my prescribed medication with numbers in the 4s and 5s was in my opinion pretty stupid.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Well.... I just had a phone call from my GP, one of my carers must have reported me to the doctors for not taking my insulin. I pointed out to her that without insulin I was maintaining my sugars between 4 and 6 most of the time up to high 7s after a meal. If I took the 40 units of insulin as...

Hypos milder whilst on keto - is there any scientific evidence?

I maybe sticking my nose in where it doesn’t belong here, but surely the blood sugar numbers should be less important than the number of times you required outside assistance in treating a hypo due to (confusion or unconsciousness) being unaware of the hypo yourself. If your able to function...

Type 2 Diabetes and foot problems.

@thomas! this thread is over 9 years old. I suggest you try making a new thread about cpap, asking your questions there. People may not assume a thread titled foot problems is about cpap.
