    A treat

You could have whisky instead of beer: that wouldn't raise your blood sugar at all.

Hello, I'm new and want to help my T2 and pre-diabetic sisters.

Glucometer is your answer, and frankly, any reasonable quality one will do. If someone eats something that isn't good for their diabetes, their blood levels will go up. Generally the effect will be quite alarming. It's the purest rebuttal to all the screeds of nonsense about good carbs vs bad...

    At wits end

If you are still eating a lot of carbs, I would expect cutting them would be your first and best option. I appreciate that may be easier said than done, but if you're in such dire straits medication-wise, I'd say it's got to be worth a try.

    Sinocare Safe-Accu 2 - is it accurate?

I used to get 'lo' when I first started using my Accucheck, because I was putting blood 'on' the strip. Once I realised you dip it like a straw into the little blood bubble, and it sucks it up from there, I was ok. I'm not saying that's your issue, but it might be worth trying a different...

    DPP-4 inhibitors such as Januvia

I was prescribed Galvus, and when I was unable to get more, another doctor gave me Januvia to tide me over. Both pills were easy to take, without any nausea etc. They didn't, it has to be said, seem to do much regarding my blood control, but that was on a single pill 50mg a day dose. I feel like...

    REd Krill

That's an odd one: I thought red krill is like an omega 3 supplement, so it should be fine. Possibly there's some sugar in that particular supplement, or in the capsule casing?

    Being extremely hard on myself

You'll meet a lot of friendly, knowledgeable T1 people on this site, and they'll have tons of support and experience to share. I'm sure it's very tough at first, but I think you'll be ok: you're looking for help in the right place, and that's a great start. p.s: I like your cat!

    Which Finger?

6 years is probably too late to reply, but I am another one who finds the sides hurt more. My left hand fingertips are possibly a little callused from years of mandolin and banjo, so that might be why, but I tend to go for the tip, slightly off centre, with the first choice digit being the ring...

    Type 2 Liver failure

As mentioned above, you need to get checked out if you're uncertain. That said, it generally takes quite a while to get to actual liver failure, so I'd be fairly optimistic. If you have been stressing your liver, it might be a good time to give it a chance to repair.

    Please educate me on fats!

Beatles' version is excellent, but I still like the original. (click to watch)

Why I think LCHF doesn't improve beta cell function

Tannith, I appreciate your input, but for the sake of clarity, what is your diabetic status? When were you diagnosed, and what type? If this is private info, please ignore me, but it seems pertinent to your position here.

    Fruit info

It's true that everyone is different, and that you should test your blood after eating to see where your levels are at. That said, I would be extremely surprised if fruit doesn't raise your levels. Almost all the popular fruits are objectively high in sugar, and T2 diabetics should basically aim...

    foot pain that moves around

Gout can move around: is there any chance of it being related to gout?

    Should my numbers be lower….

Those numbers aren't bad, to be honest- not at this early stage. Lentils will push you up, dawn phenomenon is what it is. As the others say, keep doing what you're doing; you look like you're on the right track.

Why worry about a splash of milk in tea/coffee ???

This is a great point: tea keeps wonderfully well: milk is a short-lived annoyance. It's very liberating to just enjoy your tea and coffee without the bother of milk.

    New Coke Zero

Dunno, Caprock, maybe give it a chance. I think the new 'No Sugar' Coke with the red cans and black lettering is better than the old 'Coke Zero' in the black cans. Hopefully you'll either come round to it, or you'll find a place that still does the old version.

    New to the Forum

19 is a bit high to be honest, but bananas are truly terrible, so that might be the answer. However, I think ert above has a good point about ruling out T1- perhaps do that first, and then you'll know where you stand.

    Urgh....

Those numbers aren't great, but they're not awful either: get back on track and you should be fine.

Mastering Diabetes by Cyrus Khambatta and Robby Barbaro

It's not so much an interpretation as a direct quotation: your exact words, no less. That said, we post a lot here and things sometimes get misphrased or misunderstood, so I'll assume you meant something else.
