Probably one of two units less, but so far you only have one morning reading to us, and it's not actually low. A reading in the 4s is a pretty perfect start to the day.

    Flu Jabs

Yes, my mother, who is not diabetic is suffering from COPD and heart failure in her old age. Her doctor said it may have been caused by "Asian flu" that she had when she was much younger (before my time), so the effects of flu are not only immediate; they can be long-term.

Whoah! You are Type 1. You should be seen by a specialist at least once a year. You should have your eyes and your feet checked every year. The NHS has a set of standards for the care of diabetics, and you are not getting your rights. Go in and request a referral to a hospital diabetic clinic...

    Help with sugar roller coaster

What i found was that as i worked on the timing and carb counting, i gradually became able to bring my post-meal blood sugars down, first below 10.0 as Scheiner recommends, and now usually below 7.8. But if my post-meal reading is really low, say in the 5s, that is too low, and it means I'm...

    Regular moderate exercise log

I used to cycle everywhere with my son, too. That's how I got him hooked on regular exercise, too ;) . As well as the immediate benefit, it has life long effects.

If you want to check your own carb counting without going back to your clinic or DN, there's a free online course here: http://www.bdec-e-learning.com I personally think it is worth re-checking every now and then. When I was first diagnosed we were told to weigh and measure everything. Then a...

Getting to grips with my pump

Yes, I mean I immediately appreciated the obvious things like fine tuning of basal rates, TBR, and setting different bolus ratios. I particularly love being able to bolus in fractions of a unit, for example, on the advice of the Wiz. And super-boluses are just, well, super. But I keep finding...

    Flu Jabs

In my adult life as a diabetic I have only been admitted to hospital twice for infections. Once I had a chest infection. The second time was flu. I literally could not stand up. It's not the flu that kills you, it's the complications it causes. I would have the jab. I do have it every year. I...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

8.5. Bit high this morning because turned my basal rate down to avoid post exercise hypo in night. Obviously, overdid it a bit!

    Type 1. Benefits.

I've lived in the US, UK, and Turkey, and my sister, also Type 1, was diagnosed while living in France. In my experience Type 1s get the best "deal" in France and Turkey. Both have a "mixed" system. You pay at least part of your medical costs up-front, but they are refunded by the state in...

    Help with sugar roller coaster

Have you made any changes to timing of boluses? You know that novorapid usually starts working about fifteen minutes after you inject and its action peaks 90 minutes after you inject. So you want your digestion and your insulin to work together. So if your blood sugar is high before a meal...

    Loosing faith in Animas

You know if you get a repeated occlusion like that, you can always bolus with a pen until you are confident your set is working as it should.

Getting to grips with my pump

I got my pump about 9 months ago. I hesitated for years before getting it. I had all those doubts about being attached to something, whether it would be worth it (I'm not in the UK so I had to pay for it myself), etc, etc. I finally plumped for it after months and months of trying to control my...

    SD Codefree

No, I have had mine for a year and haven't changed the battery once. I test about 7-10 times a day.

    Lada, still relatively rare?

Sweden also has a much smaller population than the UK so it is more likely that people will share genes. Also if Type 1 is genetic with a viral trigger, a small population concentrated in cities would facilitate that.

    type 1 severe depression

One hand, I'm 53 and I have had diabetes for 48 years. Yes, it was very tough back then, and sometimes it is tough now. When I was young I hated the lack of spontaneity and the feelings of exclusion. As I have got older two things have happened. The treatment and delivery methods have got...

    Help! Hypoglycaemia Mornings.

Oh, so sorry, Mooncake! Help came a bit late, didn't it! But whatever happens, whether you are reconciled or find someone with more patience for your struggles, you need to sort out this problem. Getting your diabetes under control will make you more resilient, as well as safer in yourself and...

    Regular moderate exercise log

I did one of my 90 minute walks, and what was nice was it was easy today. On this one, the return journey is uphill, and I used to stop and catch my breath halfway at one time. But today it felt like walking on the flat, so I'm well chuffed. I feel I've made real progress now. So happy.

    Regular moderate exercise log

I share your views on eating! Only yesterday I was thinking about how I can exercise more so I can eat more. It's a great motivator for me. ;)
