    My best friend Dex

Nice post. I am thinking of getting a Dexcom to complement my pump. Right now, my pump is my bestie. Hope there's no jealousy between them if I get a CGM! :)

Welcome. This thread is open to everyone. The more, the merrier. :)

    Swimming and hypo

I haven't done the sprint thing, but I have done: warm-up, weights, exercise bike, and it followed the fall-rise-fall pattern, as predicted.

    Regular moderate exercise log

Ok. Today half an hour round the shops and twenty minutes on the exercise bike.

    Running help with sugars

In the interests of group solidarity, I just did a little test too. Before dinner, but only two hours since my last bolus, i raised my bs to 9.5. Then I got on the exercise bike. After 10 minutes, 8.1. After 20 minutes, 5.9. So, pretty steep fall. I couldn't have done another ten minutes...

    Getting bloods under 7.0mmol

Yes, I found that on less than 18 units it seemed to do nothing at all for me. On 20 or more I was hypo all night!

Let me guess. You're on Lantus, right? That's pretty typical for Lantus. You could try Tresiba or Levemir, if they are available to you.

    Running help with sugars

It is really hard to exercise AND lose weight when you are Type 1 without running into Hypoland or Hyperland. If you were on a pump, I would say to reduce your basal too. But if you are not, and you want to run without stuffing your face with carbs (which is how it always feels to me), I think...

    Basal v bolus

Mine varies from day to day, but roughly 50-50 with a slight bias towards basal, so up to 57% basal some days.

    Swimming and hypo

Not only is it OK to replace insulin with exercise, it is actually better! Ideally, we should use/produce as little insulin as possible (without making our lives unbearable) because then we don't develop insulin resistance (the root cause of Type 2). When exercising your muscles do not need...

    Airline Travel - Doctors note?

I never carry any kind of documentation. I was asked for a letter donkey's years ago when I used to carry bags full of suspicious looking hypodermics. I didn't have one so I offered to let them call a doctor to test my blood sugar. They looked doubtful and let me go!

    Getting bloods under 7.0mmol

First, check that when you are going into a meal, your bs is in the right range. If so, and it's is four hours since your last bolus, then your basal is right. Next, get the timing of your bolus right. If you are getting after-meal spikes, leave twenty minutes or more between your bolus and your...

    Fighting fatigue

Ha ha! I always use dates, for extra carbs and for hypos, because they've got iron and lots of vitamins. Their glycemic index is higher than glucose, though, so you can't go mad with them. And you really need to pit and weigh them to have some idea of what you are consuming. I just carry them in...

    Help with sugar roller coaster

Ryan, have heard of the DAFNE courses that the NHS runs? That would really help you. You have to ask your doctor or DN to enrol you, I believe.

    Help with sugar roller coaster

Ryan, I don't know exactly what you ate, but I think two things: I have never met a piece of toast that was less than 25g carbs, so I suspect your carb counting is way out. Second, possible reasons for the high then low : your carb counting is out, your timing is out, or your basal is wrong. Or...

Great! And double great that you've found out so quickly that you are NOT going to have to give up your favourite and regular activities because of diabetes.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.4 this morning, though I don't know if that really counts as a FBG, since I had a nice long lie-in today.

    Regular moderate exercise log

Ah yes, I'm not at retirement age yet but about ten years ago, I switched from teaching to editing. When I taught, I never sat down in the classroom, so it was a big change for me, and not at all beneficial for my health. Also, for most of my student and working life, I cycled to college and...

    Regular moderate exercise log

I love doing it one long go if I can. And I love to walk in a park nearby. But sometimes I just can't. Time, weather, etc prevent it. My shorter walks are usually just to the local high street and back. Otherwise the shopping just doesn't get done! I have to say that this thread is working for...
