Factors in Long Term Survival of T1Ds

Weren't you/arent you a keen football player? I think I remember you saying it. Anyway, the study says that once you make it this far, you actually don't need to be as tightly controlled as in the beginning. So it hasn't got you!

can hot weather affect blood sugar?

If you are on insulin, definitely. In my case, I have to watch out for hypos. Also if it is very hot and you are uncomfortable, you can miss your hypo symptoms, especially sweating. And doing something energetic in the sun is double trouble. Carry something sweet!

Factors in Long Term Survival of T1Ds

Yes, I was actually told that good news about twenty years ago by a doctor, when I admitted how much I feared kidney failure. He told me that after 7 years, if you haven't got it already you probably won't get it. And after 14 years your chances of getting it are virtually zero. However, he...

    SD Codefree giving high readings?

Oh crikey. I'm really running my bs too low then! But does this also mean that your average displayed on Code Free is likely to be closer to your Hb than the average on other meters?

The cost of Diabetes on the NHS

Ah yes...let's send a few grant applications to DC, Boris and Farage. They don't seem to know that if you break it, you own it.

Type 1s: What Is/was Your Blood Sugar This Evening And This Morning ?

World Journal of Diabetes 2014 June 15; 5(3):282-287, Why do some patients with type 1 diabetes live so long? I'm sure they didn't mean to imply by the title that they rather wish we didn't! "Of 400 type 1 patients who survived for fifty years with diabetes, the mean HbA1c was 7.6%(+/-1.4)...

    Foot blister

I'll rely on my endo's advice, thanks, Torq. He expressed delight at my shoes and socks last time he saw them. I have to say that your post in response to mine was so pompously self-righteous that it was laugh-out-loud funny. First of all, in what universe do you live where everyone has...

Type 1s: What Is/was Your Blood Sugar This Evening And This Morning ?

If you are type 1, your hbA1c only has an 11% correlation with complications. Don't sweat the odd high. Counteract its effects by exercising regularly to reduce insulin resistance. Insulin resistance plays a much bigger role in complications than bs does.

Type 1s: What Is/was Your Blood Sugar This Evening And This Morning ?

Yes, Lantus does NOT work for everyone. It is NOT always possible to get good FBG with it. In quite a lot of people it has almost no effect at all at low doses, but at an effective dose causes night time hypos. In my case, it was like taking no basal at all at any dose below 20 units, but at 20...

Insulin absorption rate for the tongue

Still laughing at the image. I just know that this is now going to happen to me one day as a form of poetic justice.

How fast is fast-acting meant to be?

LOL, we can definitely rule out insulin resistance then! I think Tim may be right about timing. Given the amount and variability of exercise you do, you really need a Plan (nite the capital letter!). Do you have a copy of Diabetic Athlete's Handbook? It would really help you to break your...

    Napping and hypos!

One reason for night time hypos us that your muscles can snatch the glucose out of your blood to replenish themselves while you sleep (part of the repair process, I guess). Also, IME, if I keep my blood sugar flat and within range for 6 weeks, it is much, much harder to get out of a hypo. I am...

Are you Diabetic or diabetic? Work with me on this one...!

I am diabetic. I am very open about it. It is one of the first things I tell people about myself because I live in Turkey and more or less any time you meet someone, you are going to be offered food or drink within minutes, usually something sickly sweet or fatty, or both. So with some people...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

I think it is impossible to know which is harder because its so subjective as an experience. Even between people with the same type the degree if difficulty clearly varies. But achieving a lower hbA1c without dying on the way of a hypo is definitely much harder for a T1. And much more risky. And...

    Quinoa

I can cook it and find it tastes fine (slightly sweet IMO) but I have to use an extended bolus because of the protein in it. So I prefer brown rice. Sent from my iPhone using DCUK Forum mobile app
