What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I managed to get 5.9 this morning! I've always had high morning readings, but now I take dulaglutide things really have improved. But I feel so sick all of the time. I've started eating an occasional gingernut to cope with that.

    Does type 2 is reversal

Ahh, but reversal implies reversal of any ill effects, which doesn't tend to happen. It also carries the risk of the media and population assuming it is purely down to the individual if they want not to be diabetic and diabetes is therefore some sort of lazy, gluttonous choice. I think...

    Alcohol wipes and libre

I only considered vodka because I have loads of rough stuff I'll never drink. Sainsburys do a very smooth one made from milk. I wouldn't use that on my outside! I'll stick to the soap and water since it seems to work really. It's only for the free trial.

    Does type 2 is reversal

Btw, you can't actually reverse diabetes. Being in remission means you have got down to normal levels of blood glucose. The diabetes is still there but it isn't causing any harm as long as you keep your diet etc. the same.

    Alcohol wipes and libre

I just realised that hand sanitiser should work. That's useful - I've got loads of the stuff. Thanks for the input :)

Has anyone used vodka on cotton wool instead? Does it work?

    I'm lost with this t 2

It might be worth knowing that the NHS has new medications to add to metformin now that also aid weight loss rather than risking hypos and weight gain like with the old types. So it is a different ball park than it was in your mother's day and more hopeful. I don't know how your GP surgery...

Yes it is. They are glutides. :)

    New medication

The once weekly injections, like Trulicity, tend to cause weight loss through decreased appetite. However, like @JacGolden I am having lots of nausea and retching/vomiting having started it 3 weeks ago. I don't know of any other drugs that might be a once weekly injection. The tablet could be...

Emotional Eating Borderline/T2 on Keto diet

Just a little note regarding his sweating during any amount of exercise - it is probably due to his venlafaxine. There seem to be some excellent ideas on here for helping him but I guess you might not want to fully take over his eating, plus it could feel infantilising for him (or, conversely...

Which monitors do the NHS prescribe?

I was given a Finetest lite for a little period of monitoring - so no more strips now. I assume it was given because of its cheap strips. I have nothing to compare it with and it doesn't have a testing solution as far as I know. It reads high when I feel **** so I assume it's working OK.

How has everyone fared over Christmas?

I was bad for a few days - ice cream, cake, chocolates - but mostly feeling sick from starting Trulicity so had very little Christmas dinner and can't now tolerate wine or milky drinks. Spirits seem OK, hooray, so when I return to low carb eating tomorrow I'll still be able to have a celebratory...

    GlucoRx Aidex

Yes, I saw that too. I'm about to start the Libre free trial. The aidex looks like it won't work with a smart phone which seems a significant drawback to me.

    Yogurt…..

I used to eat Fage full fat, but it is soooo expensive! Still, it is tasty, filling and low carb.

I think you are right. They only get advertised to doctors!

Must lower carb diets be calorie counted too?

Thanks everybody. Some helpful and hopeful advice I shall put into action. As it happens I started Trulicity and feel so sick that food is not something I fancy atm! Thanks again!

    Trulicity side effects, anyone else?

Ooh. Funnily enough I may have done. I've just started but had dizziness and some vertigo, especially after sleeping. My blood pressure seems a little low, and I've had benign vertigo before, so I assumed these were causing the problems. They may well be in my case. It may be the Trulicity...
