    Thoughts on Canagliflozin?

I was diagnosed T2D in May 23 - with a HBA1C of 80 Put on: Metformin, a statin and Canagliflozin. I adopted a very low carb/sugar diet and managed to bring my HBA1C down to 36 by late August. The Diabetes nurse cut my Metformin in half and said we'd look again at my meds if I kept the HBA1C...

    Newly started testing blood sugars

As others have said - yes, it's certainly high enough to suggest you are diabetic. The aim would be to get below about 8.0 (prediabetic) and then try for below 6.5. When I was diagnosed back in May 23, I was testing at about 12.5 and now in the mornings before food, I'm about 5.9 I cut out...

    Newly started testing blood sugars

Generally if it goes up by 2.0 or more then whatever you've had to eat/drink has caused a spike. It's a useful way of figuring out what causes a spike and what doesn't.

Sometimes, just sometimes, it goes wrong. (Low carb, dining out)

I find the most fun and games come when I try to order a Cooked (Irish or English) breakfast. I ask them if I can hold the Hash Browns, Toast, Beans and Black Pudding, and ask what I can have instead. For me, Hash Browns are top tier and thus equal to Sausage or Bacon, but I normally just end...

Will my next ha1c be below 48?

Agree - this forum has been instrumental in my success. When I got my diagnosis, I was pointed to the recipies on DiabetesUK website and told: brown rice, sweet potato etc was the way to go. I was put on Metformin (2000mg) and a statin. I weighed 326lbs and tested at 80 for my HbA1c. After...

Will my next ha1c be below 48?

Well, I just got online access, and my results were up........ My HbA1c score is now..........36 Pretty happy with that. Now I need to speak to the GP and arrange to come off the meds to see how I go for another 3 months.

Will my next ha1c be below 48?

Yeah, I've kept a little progress spreadsheet with my weight, BP and BGS. The Blood Glucose fluctuates but overall shows a downward trend, so fingers crossed.

Will my next ha1c be below 48?

Same for me - there was about 2 weeks between my blood test and the initial diagnosis, so I've only had 10 weeks of being good - I feel like someone owes me!

Will my next ha1c be below 48?

Funny you should say that, I filled in that form today. No idea how long it'll take to process. I didnt even know it was something I could until a few weeks ago!

Will my next ha1c be below 48?

Thanks - yeah, I know it will fluctuate during the day, I was just curious if anyone else had managed a big drop in 3 months really. Really, I just want to know now!

Will my next ha1c be below 48?

In May I was diagnosed with T2D and a ha1c of 80. Since then, I've gone low carb (less than 50g a day) have ensured I swim for 30 mins at least 5 times a week. I've lost 30lbs so far, and test my Blood Glucose every morning before eating. My average score over that time is 6.1 mmol/l I've just...

    Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver

Yep cheers. I haven't been formally diagnosed with NAFLD, but had my enzyme numbers not dropped, I suspect I would have been sent for a scan and formal diagnosis. I'm just curious to see how high my number still might be and what I need to get it down to.

    Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver

When I received my T2D diagnosis in late May, the nurse also mentioned that one of my Liver Enzymes was high, and this may signify either: a) I had non alcoholic fatty liver b) alcohol fatty liver c) something far more sinister. Given I am overweight, 49 and had a Ha1c score of 80, and am not...

How many had Covid even though had all their jabs

Have had 5 shots and have had Covid 3 times. The third time was about months ago, and though it wasn't severe, I did feel that I never quite got my mojo back thereafter. I now wonder if that was approx when the T2D kicked in, and my symptoms were general tiredness and grumpiness. Certainly...

    Mcdonald's and T2s

I have a daughter with very narrow eating. McD's fries are one of the few hot foods we can get her to eat. As a result, it's often where we end up halfway through a long car journey. Now I'm T2D, there's very little to go for on the menu. I think it's going to be a cup of coffee and if I'm...

At what HBa1c level did your GP recommend Metformin?

I was diagnosed with T2D about a month ago, with a Ha1c score of 80. I was put on Metformin - starting on 1 pill a day, and working up to 4 a day after a month. As long as I have them straight after food, I have no side effects. I immediately started on low carb and had already begun...

    Too much protein

So yesterday (for example), I had net carbs of 30g. Fat and protein were about 155g each. Just curious if I should be pushing the fat up and protein down to aid keto in doing its thing.

    Too much protein

Really I'm asking about how ketosis and weight loss work together and how too much protein v fat can affect that. I'm not going starvation low with my calories

    Too much protein

I dont know what you mean by this? "but when you say 70% fat, you are meaning 70% of Energy, not by weight of food, yes? It is a very common misconception when people start calculating their macros. The macros I started with (during my very short number crunching phase) was 80% E from fat, 15%...
