Managing Good Yet Feeling Tired.......type 1

I get tired with diabetes. I was diagnosed late in life so I know what I was like before and I know it is harder now. It takes the body time to adjust and maybe it never goes back to how it was. We need to learn to live with how it is now. It sounds like you cook for your son. So when you are...

    Lantus And Emotional

Give it a week or so but if your blood sugars are good and you're still not feeling right then speak to the hospital. Not everyone gets on with Lantus. I had to push a bit to get changed to Tresiba, but I feel a lot better for it. Lantus used to give me muscle aches and I generally felt 'off' on it.

    New Type 1

Hello and welcome! Diagnosed at 43 and I've even met nurses who didn't think you could get T1 as an adult. Hope you're out and about soon.

    Concerns About 2 Year Old

Can you ask them to run a hba1c test? It's a measure of glucose levels over about 90 days and is a much better indicator than a one-off test. Hope you get it sorted soon

My Son Age 14 Wierd Diabetes Presentation

Children usually are hit hard and fast by the onset of T1 - but there are exceptions of course. I was diagnosed at 43 with levels of 147 and felt fine. I saw my GP because I was concerned about weight loss but I think he was thinking cancer before the urine test flagged up high sugars and...

Initial Treatment Of 14 Month Old

I was diagnosed last year at the age of 43 and because my hba1c was so high and bloods were running >30 they brought me down slowly. In the first 48 hours they told me to be under 20, then for the following 2 weeks to aim for around 10. Given I'm an adult and how concerned they were I imagine...

    Bolus Split

If I'm eating a high carb meal I'll test 20 mins before. If I'm above 6 then I'll take my insulin. Any lower and I'll wait until 10 mins before eating. I tend to get a hit from food quite quickly whereas my insulin has 15 min delay

    Diabetes In Children??

To put your mind at rest I would push for a consultation with your GP. Given your history with T1 and the fact that she's drinking more they should see you quickly. If the receptionists are being difficult then say to them you know how quickly children can deteriorate with T1 so should you go to...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Don't know what's going on today. Woke at 8.5 but just took my usual 1 unit because I knew it would fall while I was shuffling wheelbarrows to / from horses. BG at 5 when I left horses so took couple of haribos. 10 mins later got into office and could feel legs going wobbly = 1 x bottle of...

    How Long After A Hypo?

The advise I got for hypos was jelly babies / glucose tablets / other fast acting sugar immediately and only take the carby snack 10 mins later once you've tested and know your BG is on the rise. Night time hypos usually get a bit more attention from consultants in case you don't wake up! I was...

    Type 1 Heat Exhaustion

I don't think there is any harm in sitting down with your line manager and saying that you are feeling ill in the heat, it is hard to control your BG levels and you would like to try working from home tomorrow to see whether that makes you feel better. They can only say no.
