I often feel really rough in the morning because my BG starts to ride from about 4:30 am. It creates a feeling of anxiety so I often wake up about 5 ish. It's that feeling I used to get when I had an exam to take, but now it just happens on a normal day. Really annoying - I like my sleep!!
Those levels are pretty good. This forum has been great for showing me that even long serving T1s have days where their BG levels are all over the place so there's no point in getting stressed about it!
I was diagnosed LADA type 1 at the age of 43. Two of the antibody blood tests came back positive and a c-peptide test showed my pancreas was producing some insulin but had a 'sluggish' response - it seemed to kick in and chuck out a bit of insulin around 90 mins into the test.
I'm on 5 units...
I am getting through 2 packs of haribos a week warding off hypos. I can feel them coming so pop a few to bump my levels up. It's definitely the weather, but the inflexibility of tresiba isn't helping!!
I'm not on lantus any more but this thread is explaining why I don't get hypos after doing my horses in the morning any more. I just thought I was really insulin sensitive and a bit of exercise in the morning was sending me through the floor. I was taking lantus at about 6am so I think I was...
If it is T1 then getting the correct treatment will make you feel better. Is your GP one where you could insist on antibody tests to see whether T1 is a possibility? 31 isn't that old for diagnosis - I was 43.
Even my consultant went on about this! Having congratulated me on scores of 48, 51 and 49 over the past 6 months (diagnosed last Aug) she was flicking through my meter saying 'You test A LOT'. Well yes, that's how I get those hba1c results.......
But unnecessary for a T1 to go down this route as they can - and should - learn to manage their carb intake with insulin. If the son at some point in the future choose low carb then that's fine, but learning how to match carb intake to insulin dosages is critical.
This isn't about retinopathy. My hospital scan last year was completely clear and every time I've set foot in the opticians this year they've taken some photos just to be assured there is nothing wrong - all been clear.
Diagnosed last year and in the run up my usual short-sightedness got a lot...
I agree with everything the above posters have said - if T1 was reversible through diet then most of us would leap at the chance.
I also think for children the more restrictive the diet they are on then the more likely they are to break from it at somepoint and go off the rails with managing...
Hi Daniel - good to see you on here. When I read your story in the press I had questions and nowhere to ask them - so here we go!!
- did they run antibody tests on you when you were initially diagnosed? Could you share the results?
- did they ever do a glucose tolerance tests to see what your...
I do not know what is going on today but 12 seems to be the number. With a stinking headache to match. What's the betting it'll drop like a stone later??
What are you daily BG ranges? I get headaches and feel achy on days when my BG refuses to play along and sits in the teens.
I came off Lantus for tresiba when I had muscle aches, but I did have to be pretty firm with the diabetes team.
