    Honeymoon phase

Not out of my honeymoon phase yet, but I've had a very wobbly ride. Some days I need a lot more insulin than others, even when I measure the exact same meals. I can often tell which "mode" I'm in (it seems very on/off, rather than gradual) by what's happening with my long-acting overnight. I...

    Morning hangover feeling

Only things I can think of are: Hypo (since starting Libre I've seen a couple where I was only low for about 30mins and slept right through - would be hard to catch with strip tests) Then maybe: Dehydration/overheating Neck pain can manifest as headache Sleep apnea maybe? (Reduced oxygen, poor...

    Snacking

I know how you feel, somedays I can't help myself. I find the problem with snacks is the sudden spike compared to the speed of insulin. Very hard as you'd have to plan snacks well in advance.. which is not how snacks work! Try low carb snacks, or at least low GI perhaps. Also agree that...

Type 1 Freestyle libre sensor sites

I actually want people to see it. I'm a big nerd though, the idea of electronic implants gets me excited[emoji14] You can't just put it anywhere flat as it needs to be in the right layer of tissue. Theoretically there are other places that could work, but I don't know how uniform interstitial...

    Life with Libre

I'm into my 2nd sensor now. That break for a few days (had to have MRI/etc)was rather inconvenient! Glad to be Libre'd up again . New sensor is giving me similar readings to previous one which is great. Neither of them were left a couple days, I activated straight away. *edit* - actually this...

A recent article on the consequences of restricted carbohydrate diets for T1D children

Would be interested to follow these kids through life. The reason why I'm so care-free, why I sometimes binge, etc... has a lot to do with how strict & anxiety-controlled my family was for all of those things.

A recent article on the consequences of restricted carbohydrate diets for T1D children

Kind of hard to draw any conclusions.. Regarding whether it's worth doing.. I guess you could argue that either side has positives. I find myself wondering if this has actually achieved anything..

    Type 2 Various readings.

If you did 3 tests on exactly the same meter, you'd probably get a similar range, so as others have said, try not to stress. I did some extensive testing and found my meter varied by +/- 0.4 quite often. So eg: one reading could be 4.9, then 10 seconds later the same meter with a new strip...

    6 Months In

Beer does have carbs, but if you're trying to curb alcohol intake it may still be a better option for you. it's a lot harder to drink 7 beers than a bottle of wine! How are you when on alcohol? I lose control and eat more when I drink (but I'm type 1 so that's not such a bad thing) Sounds like...

    Life with Libre

Agreed on shaving - I kind of assumed everyone did it. Hair will completely kill any glue. Even if it's just the fine soft type (which I had - could barely see it)

    Type 2 Hypo kit

I don't like glucotabs... If I get to eat extra sugar, I want to enjoy it! I carry: - star burst fruit chews (4.5g of sugar) - snakes (10g of sugar) - skittles (1g each) I keep mini cans of lemonade in the car. I do also carry a 20g glucose glucogel sachet for really more emergency situations

    chilling to the bone

I would definitely advise getting better at this - Ignoring small signs just about killed me! I'm still not as good at it as I probably ought to be...

    Life with Libre

Well.. my sensor expired :( It's been three hours. I'm at work and honestly feel like I've been sent back to the stone age! Wearing and using it I thought it was nice, useful, but no big deal... now I realise Libre is such a good thing! Can't wait to pop the new one in on Friday.

    Libre/CGM sensor - bumps, knocks & trauma

Yes.. didn't really consider such things until after I put it on! (This is my first sensor)

    Libre/CGM sensor - bumps, knocks & trauma

Anyone got experience with this? Just hooked my Libre sensor on a door frame quite hard. It seems to still be attached, I've no definitive reason to believe the needle has been dislodged.. it's pulled a fair bit of the glue up on one side, so it's possible it got pulled up a bit from the skin...

    Life with Libre

Yes, I wondered about that - seems like giving it a chance to dry is a good idea - if covering i'd want to make sure it started and stayed 100% dry. Update : day 13.5 - was holding strong, despite the edges starting to separate a little. Until... I caught it on a door frame and gave it a mighty...

The man with the disappearing Type 1. An update...

Maybe they mixed up his specimen with someone else, maybe something changed his cells/antibodies so they don't recognize each other anymore (and there were enough cells left to grow back) I will watch with interest to see if proof or explanation appear. But it's a pretty long shot that even if...

    Life with Libre

Scott, the readings might be better because it's either not averaging, or averaging over 5min instead of 15. I think this affects individual reading accuracy when things are changing rather than steady. Another report on my first sensor: 1.5 days left, glue has half failed now. It would come...

Type 1 More questions as a somewhat new diabetic...

@catapillar By minimum correction dose, I meant taking less than 'x' units, has no detectable effect. I know this sounds strange, but if I take less than 3u, it does nothing for me. So I'm wondering if there is some level of loss/unusable insulin, either physically or biochemically, which is...

Dexcom Vs. Freestyle Libre - Blood Glucose Testing

Haven't used dexcom, but love the Libre. Accuracy has been fine for me - the only time it struggles is when things are rapidly changing. you have to remember there's a ~15 minute lag/delay on the readings because it measures interstitial fluid, not blood. Also the fact it averages readings over...
