When is the right time for insulin

Hi I have just tried the Libre 2 and found it much more accurate than previous Libre and both alarms worked extremely well and woke me up at night. Excellent. I would recommend.

    Metformin in type 1?

Hi I have had type 1 LADA for three years. The first year I also took metformin unfortunately even the slow release gave me upset stomach quite frequently and I had regular hypos, cutting the grass was particularly bad and even during the night. The upset stomachs got progressively worse not...

When is the right time for insulin

£40 per sensor, good luck, it can be difficult and a lot to take in at the start but you will get there.

When is the right time for insulin

Hi I have had Type 1 LADA for 3 years now. Wish I knew a lot more at the start! Read Dr Bernstein Diabetes solution, it explains a lot...

    Pfizer Jab causing Insulin Resistance?

Thanks for posting, reassuring to hear you have not had raised blood glucose after the second vaccine. I had the Pfizer end of Feb and was warned as I am prone to DKA that I might have a reaction and I did! I bought a Libre especially and would have found it hard to manage without it, I quickly...

    Info on libre sensor/libreview please

Hi I have just tried the Libre 2, thought it was excellent. I found it more accurate than the original Libre and I loved the alarms. I am not an expert but my nurse told me if the reader scans the sensor first then you will most likely have trouble using your phone. Make sure the reader is off...

I'm XpatJock. My wife is newly diagnosed.

Hi As your wife has Hashimoto's this could justify asking your GP for the GAD antibody blood test, definitely keep an eye on the diabetes and if she feels ill with high blood sugar check for ketones, ask her diabetes nurse for testing strips or a meter if she doesn't have one. Take care and...

I'm XpatJock. My wife is newly diagnosed.

Just another quick question what type of arthritis does your wife have? Is it rheumatoid arthritis? I do zoom Pilates and exercise with a resistance band as well as walking. All great for lowering blood sugar.

I'm XpatJock. My wife is newly diagnosed.

Hi I rarely post but have very similar to your wife. I have Hashimotos disease (hypothyroidism) for about 8 years, type 1 LADA diabetes, and have to eat gluten free. Firstly I am impressed that you managed to get T3! Despite swimming almost daily and eating very carefully I struggled for...

    Feeling awful

Hi Maddy The more you tell us the more I am concerned for you that you may be Type 1 LADA, insist on the GAD antibody blood test asap, can you have a telephone appointment with the doctor to discuss this, they could post you the blood test form and book a blood test for the day your isolation...

    Feeling awful

One more quick point about your B12 deficiency, do you have pernicious anemia? This is an autoimmune disease, the same as Type 1 LADA diabetes, mention this to the doctor, it would be further justification for you to have the GAD antibody blood test.

    Feeling awful

Hi Really sorry to hear you are going through this, I rarely post but you mentioned being sick and feeling sick if I were you I would tell this to the doctor or diabetic nurse at the doctors along with 2-3 days of readings and mention you are eating limited carbs. Nicole already mentioned...

Type 1 MASSIVE bg spike after meals

Hi I am Type 1 LADA I had the same problem last summer. I have improved my situation so happy to share what has worked for me. Firstly my nurse tried longer needles, I was using 5mm and switched to 6mm, a big improvement straight away. Apparently there are also 8mm. Second my nurse tells me...

    Going off eating?!

They are not my conclusions, the endocrinologist was insistent. I can only tell you what I was told and reference the book that also talks about this.

Newly diagnosed - some questions. Thanks.

Hi I was diagnosed as Type 1 LADA 18 months ago, I am still learning! I have found this site very useful especially for tips when having a problem. I too did not want to go on insulin, had weight to lose and was eating low carb. Since that time I have realised that there is a lot of information...

    Going off eating?!

Hi Jim. You are absolutely correct, and I followed this diet for a long time but caused myself a few problems. An endocrinologist told me you also need the correct amount of cortisol and thyroxine for your metabolism to function correctly. Eating low calorie as well as low carb (<20g per day)...

    Going off eating?!

Hi Just seen my typo! LOL I obviously meant 20g of carbs not crabs!

    Going off eating?!

I would increase your carb intake to 20g of carbs per day to maintain your metabolism and hopefully stop headaches. You may be interested to read The Hormone Reset diet by Sara Gottfried MD Very good if you want to lose weight and explains the science about how our metabolism works. Your...

Trying to get back to work after 2 years out - advice please

Volunteering somewhere that you would like to work for a day or afternoon a week can be very effective, get to know HR and it's amazing how often someone will mention something that may lead to a permanent paid job. Also have you looked at jobs within charities?

    Insulin question

Hi I am Type 1 LADA, I take 0.5 units Novorapid per 10 g of carbs, but I strongly suggest a diary as for me it depends on what the carbs are. For example I can eat 100g of Kefir yogurt which is 10g of carbs and half a unit of Novorapid would cover this perfectly. However if I tried to eat 10g...
