    Autoimmune Issues with Type 1

Hi Impi. Just seen your post, yes I too have vitiligo, Hashimotos and for the last 18months T1 LADA. I lost 3 stone 18 months ago after switching my Levothyroxine to before bed and I finish eating and only drink water after 8pm (important to stick to this) I paid to see an endo who told me this...

Hi all Thanks for your comments and sorry for my delay in reply I have been ill this last week. I am trying Fiasp as for breakfast I am trying to keep some grains in my diet, porridge every other day. I just can't eat this anymore with Novorapid. For lunch and dinner I eat grain free and low...

Fiasp Insulin is somewhat incredible honest don't need to low carb.

Hi I started Fiasp a few weeks ago with breakfast, I would be interested to know how many units do you take per 10g carbs? I have also found I still have to wait 15mins before eating, otherwise I still spike up to around 15. How long do you wait? Thanks

I don’t know what to do

Hi Just hoping you are feeling much better? Has your chest infection cleared up and how are your BG numbers?

I don’t know what to do

Hi I think you need to be firm with the doctor and ask for GAD antibodies test and c-peptide test. Definitely to rule out slow onset of T1 as you have recently developed feet and eye complications I would see this as justification. In the meantime how about omelette for breakfast, good varied...

    Honeymoon period maybe ending

Hi Could I ask do you eat low carb to maintain average BG of 5.5? I am 1.5yrs after LADA diagnosis and recently had to start Levemir as BG rising without eating. Thanks

    scary experiences

Hi. Yes I recognise this, Are you testing for ketones? I have had very similar symptoms when I am ill and my BG is a bit too high, I have to be really careful when I am ill, my ketostix have shown the 4th level up with BG of 13-15 when I had an infected insect bite. If I am well I can have the...

    A sentence in this article.....

Hi I have had LADA since June 2018 and the same very variable response, I recently got the freestyle libre which has been very helpful in proving my point at the local hospital. The solution, different needles, upped from 5mm to 6mm and its made a big difference. Hope this info helps you.

    HBA1C up from 38 - 54 in 9 months

That sounds like a good plan, don't make the same mistake I did a few years ago. It obviously worked for you to lose 2 stone but now you have put on a couple of pounds unexplained I would stick to safer levels. With all the exercise you might find you gradually lose another half a stone anyway...

    HBA1C up from 38 - 54 in 9 months

Very interesting I didn't know that, thanks, although the nurse in my local hospital told me not to include veg due to their fibre content. Unless she said that as she is not keen on low carb! This makes me wonder if the prolonged low calorie had more to do with my reverse T3 problem. I slowly...

Don't worry, just be aware. Do you have ketostix to test your urine? That's all I have, if I get a reading of above 15 I check it.

I looked up your bread, each slice 3.8 g carbs - fibre of 2.1 g carbs = 1.7 net carbs I thought I was eating 20g carbs per day but I didn't know about net carbs and that you should minus the fibre content so actually I was eating a lot less than I thought. I was counting vegetables as well and...

    HBA1C up from 38 - 54 in 9 months

Yes it is in the book I mentioned earlier The Hormone Reset diet by Sara Gottfried MD This is where I looked it up to tell Millie. And there is quite a bit on the Internet. I found out about it as an endocrinologist told me, I have Hashimotos disease and was regularly eating less than 20g of...

    HBA1C up from 38 - 54 in 9 months

I looked it up less than 20g carbs per day will cause your body to produce reverse T3, this is terrible for your thyroid, metabolism and putting on weight. 20g-49g carbs per day is much better if trying to lose weight and should keep your metabolism going. To maintain weight 50-99g carbs per day...

Hi Millie I know what you mean, my parents are very worried but don't really understand the complexity of it all and my husband gets fed up with it! My eldest son doesn't ask and hates even seeing me finger prick but my youngest (15) is actually helpful. I didn't get the right medical support...

Hi I was also diagnosed just after my 50th birthday! I have also had a dramatic rise a few months ago despite no diet or exercise change and am on 5 injections a day now. 2 Levemir and 3 Novorapid. Initially I still had problems but what finally really worked was switching from 5mm needles to...

Hi Millie Gosh that is a long wait! There is quite a bit of discussion about when to start insulin as one theory is that the sooner you start the more beta cells you preserve, I would do a bit of research at least so you know the right questions to ask in March. Monitor yourself carefully...

Hi Millie How are you ? have you got an appointment before Christmas? Are you on insulin yet? Hope things are going well for you. I am reading Dr Bernstein at the moment, it's very interesting and I can relate to a lot of issues he writes about. I have had type 1 LADA since June 2018. I also...

    Struggling with loooow

Hi How are you? I thought I would let you know that the longer needles have made a massive improvement to my whole day. I am no longer getting the very highs followed by too low. It's not perfect but much more stable. Have you had any luck?

Ask the GP for a print out of your test results, they have to give you a copy. Find out how many GAD antibodies you have eg is it 10 or 100?
