Freezing bread then toasting it to lower GI?

I can’t say I have noticed any difference . I have to have gluten free bread, but whether I freeze it or not it still sends my blood sugars high.

Low BG. Time for more regular carbs?

@WeeBobbyBee that’s great to hear it’s all settled down. My competitive days are over, as with many long time runners my knees and ankles have suffered. Yes i was a long distance runner 10 k upwards. My body is built for distance, although apparently I have a protein in my muscles that equips me...

Gluten intolerant, think I might be dairy/lactose intolerant too ☹️

Hi and welcome to the forum @diabetic Disney. I have coeliac. I am unable to tolerate any gluten. Consuming even a tiny amount or a cross contamination will cause, stomach ache, nausea / vomiting, bloating, IBS and GERD. I also get a gluten rash along with all the digestive symptoms. So I have...

    Feeling overwhelmed

Hi and welcome to the forum @shellz78. @Antje77 has pretty much covered the Metformin question. It can come as a shock and be very daunting to get that diabetic diagnosis from your Dr. Know that you are not alone. Have a look around the T2 sub forums. I hope you will find them both informative...

Low BG. Time for more regular carbs?

I’m into fitness @WeeBobbyBee . I could not get my blood sugars into the ‘normal range’ despite 9 months of <35 g of carbs. I suffered lows (low 2’s blood tested) with an entire raft of symptoms. At the time I was not on BG meds. A point others have raised is anything above 4mmol/Ls is not in...

Communicating About Carbs (the trials and tribulations of)

I think food intolerances and allergies in general are problematic or even dangerous when going out to see friends and eating out at restaurants. Treating carbs as an intolerance is easier for people to understand. I am most certainly the ‘problem person’ when seeing friends and eating out. My...

Hi there @Rosie9876 . I’m going to tag @Rachox as she has a list of UK glucose monitors. I live in Canada so likely we have different ones.

    Well that was a disappointment

There are a couple of interesting papers on lean diabetics. The first one suggests that the rising cases of lean diabetes maybe down to a different form of diabetes completely and not a subset of T2 as lean diabetics do not respond to the tried and tested means of lowering blood sugars. The...

Dealing with reactive hypos when due to go to bed

I cannot eat fats either @coolcombination . It’s under investigation. They have ruled out my gall bladder. It sucks doesn’t it. Are they going to remove your gall bladder?

Dealing with reactive hypos when due to go to bed

Hi and welcome to the forum @coolcombination . We cannot diagnose or suggest prescriptions on the forum. However, in general, Reactive hypoglycaemia responds well to low carb diets, it sounds counter intuitive. I believe it’s the consumption of carbs that sets off the over production of insulin...

I,m new here but just come out of hospital for 48 hour fasting nightmare doctors shocked!

Hello @Shaky-kate , and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear you are going through all of this. It sounds awful. I’m going to tag @Lamont D . He is very knowledgeable on Reactive Hypoglycemia having battled for a diagnosis.

    Well that was a disappointment

Thanks @Max243. I’m on an off label drug, Buproprion. It increases insulin secretion, as I’m relatively insulin sensitive, rather than Metformin, which I was offered. I also do around 11 miles a day fast paced walking. I would love to run it, but my knees are rubbish.

    SRSLY low carb Croissants

The UK is amazing for low carb and gluten free. Whenever I’m in the UK I’m blown away by the food options. They even do gluten free croissants, satisfying the French in me. Canada lacks greatly in this area.

    Well that was a disappointment

@Max243 have you tried a keto diet, which was effectively what I did? If you haven’t please don’t be put off by my results.

    Well that was a disappointment

Yes @Max243 . Did the very low carb diet, 35 carbs max per day total. All that happened was I lost a lot of weight, ended up under weight. I was expecting my HbA1c to be in the low 5’s % , but no they hardly moved from being diabetic. Like you I felt deflated and out of options for reducing my...

    Exercise

Hi there @dwelldon , everyone is different when it comes to blood sugars. I am a fitness junkie. So to answer your question I would say resistance training, such as weights. Anything in a gym environment where your muscles are challenged. Of course, I’m not suggesting that the gym is the only...

Type 3c - how were you diagnosed?

@Jomar I may have issues with my pancreas. I have been suffering crippling bouts of pain in my upper right and middle abdomen. I am unable to tolerate fats or very likely metabolism them as I suffer from nausea and bouts steatorrhea after eating them. I also had some bad hypos for several years...

I think I’m diabetic but symptoms are ‘off’

Hi and welcome to the forum @shxnzzz The only way to be sure as to whether your symptoms are related to elevated blood sugars is to go to your Dr and request a HbA1c blood test. Basically a HbA1c is known as glycated haemoglobin. It is made when your blood sugar sticks to your red blood cells...
