    Help with beating T2 Please...

Even if I do end up in "remission", I'm not going to give up my LCHF eating plan as I'm enjoying it far too much! I'm also enjoying all the walking. I feel so much better and I want to stay that way.

    It works!

Superb result, Smotyn74! I'm hoping for a similar result in November. I'm also well chuffed that your DN sent you to the right place, and not the "Other" site.

    Hi, newly diagnosed Type 2

Hi Rach, and welcome. Once you get over the shock and take back some control (get a meter and ask a lot of questions) it does get manageable. This is a brilliant forum - I have learned far more here than from the health "professionals" - and the doctor is pleased with my progress so far. So...

    LCHF versus family

I'm working on my husband. He's been T2 for 16 years and swallowed the official diktat of high carb, low fat hook, line and sinker (and he ADORES carbs!). He's on Metformin, Glicazide and statins, and is dreading seeing his doctor after his next Hba1c as insulin may be suggested, which would be...

    Desmonds, worth it?

I think that's the course I'm doing on 18th October. Full day, meet with a diabetic nurse practitioner, take a packed lunch? I can't wait. I'm expecting an argument as I'm going to be very up front about what I'm eating. My packed lunch will also reflect my low-carb status. I presume that...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yesterday... Scrambled eggs with 1 rasher of bacon low-carb whey protein shake with 3 brazil nuts 20g St Augur cheese with 8 walnut halves Quorn chilli with 1 taco, cheese, 1 tbsp. sour cream, mountain of veg. Amazingly, bedtime BS reading 5.8 (was worried about the taco) Drinks: tea, coffee...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

6.2 again. Looking at my readings for the past couple of days, there's a hint of stability creeping in...

    Dismayed newly diagnosed T2

It is the most horrendous shock and there is no shame in grieving either. The good news is that once you get to grips with things, start to feel physically well and feel you have some control over the situation, that's when everything changes for the better. Getting a blood glucose meter works...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

6.2. The experiment with the low-carb noodles in a stir-fry was a resounding success.

what are your favorite diabetes "candy"

Amazingly, since I've gone low-carb I've lost my taste for sweets. I quit smoking five months ago and still chew sugar-free Nicorette gum now and again (lemon flavour) and vape 'dessert' vape juices, but that's as far as it goes. Even the vape juices taste sickly to me now. Very occasionally...

    Finding my feet at last!

Well done you! Testing out foods is fun and quite rewarding, and it's always a victory when a food you love doesn't create a spike. Sometimes a spike may be down to quantities eaten. A big bowl of lentil dal caused a horrendous spike for me, but a tablespoon of dal, or a green salad with a few...

HELP ME PLEASE! Never had a craving like it :( Struggling not to give in

Good on you, Miss Mac, and everyone who came up with such brilliant suggestions!

How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

Interesting question. I suspect I may have been pre-diabetic for years before my diagnosis last month. When I was young and skinny I would, occasionally, get very shaky if I hadn't eaten for a few hours, but displayed no other symptoms. It was around 18 years ago I started to have problems...

Feeling a little annoyed with my partner

We're both T2D, husband for 16 years now. He was in burnout mode around the time I was diagnosed, but got back into the swing of things once he realised I was tackling my diagnosis with all guns blazing, I was losing weight and getting my BS down. He's trying a low-carb diet too, but is a little...

    Fat belly

I don't eat breakfast until I get to work. These days it tends to be hard-boiled eggs with spinach leaves dressed with lemon juice and a little bit of bacon or chorizo, or half an avocado with smoked salmon and cherry tomatoes. Not too heavy, tasty and nutritious, and keeps me going for hours.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Morning. Considering my riotous Friday night (meal out with friends and far too much to drink), I was amazed at the 5.7.

    Cannot lose weight

Don't lose heart. There is more than one way to measure fat loss. If you're eating and exercising well but putting on weight, it might be muscle. The dead giveaway is that your clothes feel looser. As well as weighing yourself, get the tape measure out and measure your waist too.
