there’s lots of threads online showing various doctors and medics who have tested their own glucose, many have spiked to 11 after porridge/McDonalds then quickly back down. My non diabetic partner hit 8.3 after a Red Bull but was back to 5.3 at 2 hours.

No symptoms really, although I could convince myself that I do! I just had two siblings diagnosed and as I had to monitor my glucose during pregnancy it became a little bit obsessive. I only stopped testing around 6 months postpartum when I realised how unhealthy it was for me to be doing so...

I hope so. It’s just that I didn’t get that result by eating a normal Western diet - I still eat low carb. I saw one woman on a pregnancy group with an hba1c of 24 (!!) though I did wonder if something else was going on with her that resulted in a falsely low result.

Thanks for the reply. I think it’s the uncertainty that drives me mad! When things are less crazy with Covid I’m going to try and push for a GTT so I can determine once and for all where I stand. I think I’m going to struggle to convince them though

Hi all I had suspected borderline gestational diabetes when I was pregnant, hba1c taken at 37 weeks was 33. Diabetic team ruled out diabetes based on this. I read many studies suggesting hba1c in pregnancy is falsely low but concluded that it’s unlikely my hba1c would have been higher than 37...

    Both siblings type 2

Hi All I’ve been thinking about my risk factors recently and was curious what others thought. Both my siblings received a type 2 diagnosis in their 50’s, one was obese and the other has been known for years in the family as the chocoholic. Appeared a healthy weight but did have the pot belly...

All vulnerable can now book Covid jab online

Yes it’s just England, but it’s not restricted to over 56. Anyone over 56 can book but anyone in the other groups listed can too.

Has anyone young from Group 6 been contacted for a covid vaccine yet?

All vulnerable can book via the NHS link without invitation - that is group 6 I believe and certainly all diabetics.

All vulnerable can now book Covid jab online

I’ve noticed a few people here saying they’ve yet to receive their vaccination letters. The NHS booking page has now been updated to allow all vulnerable to book their own vaccine (without letter)...

Higher readings after fasting than after eating?

In which case I have no idea how your doctor can tell you that you are “nearly prediabetic” because you didn’t have a test for it. 141 is 7.8 mmol and it’s not unusual for non diabetics to get these numbers after eating, which you had. As for the random blood test, it’s my understanding that...

Higher readings after fasting than after eating?

what kind of blood test did you have? Was it a fasting one? Or did they get you to drink a glucose drink and take two sets of bloods?

Higher readings after fasting than after eating?

5.4 isn’t low so that’s where you want to be 2 hours after a meal, if not even lower. As for your fasting, many things can affect your fasting glucose. I am not diabetic but I am high risk, I have even noticed that when it is nearing that time of the month, my fasting is 5-5.3 when it is...

    Anxiety & diabetes

Hi All I suffer quite severe anxiety and have been managing it without medication since my teens. Things have been worse recently and I’m considering giving medication a go. I have noticed that a lot of the anti depressants that are used for anxiety state that they can affect glucose and...

    Just been told to shield

Well, if anything at least this scare has put me off the after dinner Rich Tea’s that had crept back in to my diet. Chicken salad & cheese for the next 40-50 years it is. It’s also been clarified that type 2 alone is not enough risk to shield, but type 2 + other factors is.

    Just been told to shield

The bottom of the NHS update says GD mothers must get their checks for type 2 etc, considering how many mothers I’ve read that hadn’t even heard of it tells me the GP’s are in for a huge surge of hba1c requests.

    Just been told to shield

clearly a coding error!! Saying that, it says “as long as they’ve had their checks” ... where do you draw the line? Type 2 can develop whenever!! Last hba1c August 2020 was 30 but if I’ve smashed the carbs since then i could in theory be in the diabetic range now.

    Just been told to shield

NHS Digital have updated this. Still don’t get it. https://twitter.com/parthaskar/status/1363523692693700608?s=2 Edit to add, Partha Kan has said GP can downgrade us from shielding if confirmed no type 2.

    Just been told to shield

it’s strange. I may have said above, using my postcode I must shield (assuming GD falls under type 2) - if I use my in laws postcode I don’t need to shield. I can’t get my head around what that actually means thought. I get that statistically i am more at risk, but am I REALLY more at risk...

    Just been told to shield

it’s very possible my understanding of it is wrong, I skimmed over it, but I definitely thought I read younger more at risk and specifically women. I could be going mad “Supplementary figures A and B show graphs of the adjusted hazard ratios for body mass index, age, and the interaction...
