    Hairy Bikers cook book

Thank you. I have heard of the fast 800 one though some doctors I follow have massively discredited it along with the author! Thanks! I’ve been eating low carb for almost a year now and have also been walking 4-5 miles daily. Like I say I’m a healthy weight, whereas both my siblings were...

    Hairy Bikers cook book

Hello! I don’t have diabetes myself but since two of my siblings receiving a type 2 diagnosis last year I have been eating relatively low carb and have cut out all refined carbs with the occasional spoonful of my partners outrageously delicious carb-loaded meals. I am SO bored of eating the...

    Face masks

Hi All For those of you using disposable face masks, which brand do you use? I’m talking about FFP2 or FFP3 grade, not surgical mask. Until now we have used Covaflu but I have just discovered these https://www.ukmeds.co.uk/hygiene-face-mask-ffp2-n95 Honestly, I’m concerned about whether any...

1 hour postprandial readings and a few other questions...

Interestingly, I had similar concerns for a long time. I fell pregnant last year and had my baby in February this year. When I was 37 weeks pregnant my siblings were both diagnosed with type 2 and when I told the hospital this they suggested I monitor my glucose at home for a week and report...

Just how low carb is this?

Thanks! I’ve read a lot about insulin resistance over the last year, and during the time I was monitoring my glucose I noticed that after a couple of months of very low carb (back then I was living off chicken salads) I noticed my fasting was higher than it was when I was eating a carb heavy...

Just how low carb is this?

Since having 2 siblings diagnosed with type 2 (in their 50’s, I’m 30) I switched my diet around and cut out most refined carbs and followed a generally low carb diet. I didn’t count carbs/calories but I was conscious of what I was eating for the first time in a long time. Having tested my own...

    Capillary vs venous glucose

From what I’ve read whilst that is the case for fasting, apparently it is not the case for post prandial reads. I could stand corrected however! My healthy non diabetic partner recently asked to test after a 55g monster energy drink and hit 8.4 at one hour, yet online it says a non diabetic...

    Capillary vs venous glucose

Thanks. I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to do it at home given the variability in meter reads. If i tested at 9.5 as an example I’d be terrified until speaking to a doctor for a lab OGTT.

    Capillary vs venous glucose

Thank you for the response. I suppose my concern is that if i do indeed have type 2 and have masked it, I am currently prone to many more issues and should be having a completely different relationship with my GP etc than I do currently (non existent unless I am sick, which is rare) - so to not...

    Capillary vs venous glucose

Hi all. I have posted before about issues surrounding my “diagnosis” of gestational diabetes at 37 weeks pregnant. I never had any GD symptoms during my pregnancy to suggest it, baby measured normal, amniotic fluid fine, no glucose in urine etc. However late in my pregnancy I had a sibling...

    Prediabetes, LADA...or paranoia?!

Your hba1c is on the high side of normal so it could stay there or you could end up in the prediabetic range soon. Personally as someone who also had GD and also has siblings with type 2, I have maintained a low carb diet since pregnancy and plan on continuing.... forever. Fun! I agree a...

    Am I irresponsible?

I believe 3 high readings IS a diagnosis. I assume your trust didn’t offer an OGTT due to Covid?

    Actual prediabetic hba1c?

Here it shows 5.9 as the cut off then directly below states 5.4.. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html

    Actual prediabetic hba1c?

Conflicting info on fasting levels for prediabetes too. I could have sworn a fasting glucose of 5.5 and above was prediabetic in the UK which conflicts this.

    Actual prediabetic hba1c?

Ah yes, American. Still... same condition, its worrying there is different criteria. https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/guide/glycated-hemoglobin-test-hba1c

    Actual prediabetic hba1c?

Thanks! Where has this 5.7% come from then? It’s so bizarre! It’s quoted all over various medical sites.

    Actual prediabetic hba1c?

I’ve noticed some NHS trusts are diagnosing prediabetes at an hba1c of 6% to 6.4% and this goes along with a lot of information online, however I was under the impression it was 5.7% to 6.4%. Can anyone advise? I can’t believe different UK trusts use different criteria for the same disease.

    Glucose after burger & chips!

It’s the loose skin that got me wondering. He was born 6lbs3 at full term. I mean he was basically skin and bones, it was really odd. The only thing it could have been was the drastic change in my diet because I did lose weight doing so from 38 ish weeks. These are just my feelings and...

    Glucose after burger & chips!

perhaps, but I couldn’t have been further from low carb prior to my diagnosis and i eradicated them almost completely in the last few weeks. I can’t see why my baby suddenly dropped to the 10th centile from the 50th when there were no problems with my placenta or anything else in my pregnancy...

    Glucose after burger & chips!

This is SO confusing. Where do you draw the line then? My a1c in pregnancy was 33, regardless of this I was told I had gestational diabetes due to a read of 8.4 after the above meal. I didn’t have any symptoms, nor was my pregnancy symptomatic of GD (no glucose in urine, baby average size...
