    Eaten all wrong things today

Defren is right. Try the following: 1. Put biscuits in bin. 2. Cover them with rotting vegetables. 3. Now you have to kneel on the floor and pick your way through rotting vegetables to get to them. Contemplate the degradation that they have driven you to! Or alternatively (less messy) but them...

    Metformin & Vitamin B12 deficiency

Sid, I can see where you’re coming from, and you’re exactly right to try to stop diabetics worrying unnecessarily about this (given there’s so much else to worry about), and to reassure them in general terms about metformin, which seems to be by a long streak the safest diabetes medication out...

    Dizziness feeling faint head rush

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but has anyone mentioned B12 deficiency to you? That can certainly cause dizziness of the type you mention (try googling it), and being on metformin for 5 years could have depleted your B12 absorption. Just a thought.

    Cheese filled bacon mug

Hang on, surely saturated fats isn't the only issue here? I thought processed meats are bad for your health because of high levels of sodium, nitrate levels reducing insulin production, higher risk of stomach and pancreatic cancer (wasn't there some Swedish research on this?), etc - and that...

    NHS Advice on diet

As the one who started that particular thread (though I didn't have any control over events) and without wanting to apportion any blame, I think that perhaps we can say that it demonstrated that the forum is not necessarily the ideal vehicle for this sort of collective enterprise (although the...

    Stress

Hi Defren -- this is just to say that I hope you're feeling better soon, and to make the well-known observation that stress undoubtedly weakens resistance to infections, so while you probably do have a virus the stress may have played a part. Be kind to yourself and let your body decide how...

    Curiosity and all that

I think one thing I have heard before is that LADA, Mody and the other 'odd numbers' were a rather small percentage. I am not sure I personally agree that 10-15 percent is small, compared to for instance pregnancy-diabetes. -M I'm with you on that. When it comes to numbers of people rather...

    Curiosity and all that

Mileana – I agree with everything you say, but surely this is should prompt us to renew the call that has been made before for there to be a separate section of the forum for those who are not T1 or T2? Our low-carbing T2 friends are inspirational, and are achieving wonderful things and give...

    Flu Jab

I find that arranging a date for a flu jab is a surefire way of ensuring that I then fall ill anyway and have to reschedule the injection. It just happened yet again this week. Maybe the answer is not to arrange the test and just pay a nurse to creep up unawares and stab me from behind...

bread how much should you eat with a meal?

Timing can be an issue too. I had to abandon even a small slice of toast at breakfast as it spiked me, but a small amount of seeded low-carb bread at lunch doesn't seem to do too much damage - as always, test and see.

    What's happening to me now!?!?!

Not sure how the pancreatitis is affecting things, but from your description it sounds like the gliclazide kicked in fairly effectively, so your pancreas can still generate insulin, which can't be a bad thing.

    Has anyone come off Metformin?

I wouldn't query Grazer's general emphasis on the positives of metformin, but alas no drugs are completely lacking in side-effects, and a number of studies have shown that long-term taking of metformin can in some people lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. General symptoms of B12 deficiency can...

    A gentle word to bigbenn

It's always nice to welcome someone new to the forum, especially someone who has managed to establish good control, but it would be helpful if you would spend a bit of time reading up on diabetes (some of the discussions on this forum would be a start) before rushing to tell everyone that...

    Am I type 1 or Type 2 ?

This issue keeps coming round -- is there a case for having a separate section of the forum for non-T1/T2, so that people can find it? It's understandable and proper that the forum has separate sections for T1 and T2, but that does send an inadvertent message that you must be one or the other.

    Injured C6 nerve. Extreme pain.

This is not going to be very helpful but I'll report it anyway. My wife had this some years ago (bad seizure to begin with, went away, then much worse some years later, couldn't move neck without agony), saw orthodopedic specialist (big name, now works with Team GB) who said options were (i)...
