The Guardian Long Read: 'The Sugar Conspiracy'

Yes, a great article. One that I will insert in my 'story'. I'm sure many of us agree with it but, on a first reading, two paragraphs jumped out at me as to why new 'health theories' are not embraced more readily: In a 2015 paper titled Does Science Advance One Funeral at a Time?, a team of...

BMJ: 'What if sugar is worse than just empty calories? An essay by Gary Taubes'

Trying to look at this as a non-diabetic and how I may react to it, the tenet seems to be that excess sugar is linked with obesity which in turn can lead to health problems. But direct links between sugar and T2 / heart disease are hypothesized (widely) but unproven. In other words excess sugar...

    Introducing Myself

Blimey Casey, you've been through the wringer. You appear to have a great attitude though, good for you. I'm sure you'll find lots of help here if you feel you need it. Best of luck with it all.

    Peripheral neuropathy?

10 lb is not to be sniffed at - well done. Regarding that particular diet, I have no personal experience of it. Maybe someone else will come along and help. What I can say is that quite a lot of people, including me, have lowered their blood sugars and lost weight with a low carbohydrate, high...

    Peripheral neuropathy?

I'm not a medic But you appear to be quite right, a way of helping PN is to get your blood glucose under control. Have a good read around this site. I haven't any experience with the 8-week diet, but perhaps you could consider more long-term life-style changes?

    A MUDSLIDE TO TYPE I

Good post. One word stands out for me, humour. While in no way playing down your problems, humour is something that has got my wife and I through some pretty dark times. There's a constant pressure with chronic illness and any relief from that pressure is worth it's weight in gold. One thing is...

    Numb leg

Hi @Kentoldlady1 You say you woke up with this? Did it go when you got up and moved about? The reason I ask is that I get @Guzzler symptoms of a numb outer thigh quite regularly. Either through walking, sitting in a lazy-boy chair or when waking a distance. The symptoms disappear quickly when...

    Falling apart.....

Hello ladies. Kristin's post here got me thinking (which is not usual). Your arthritis and aches and pains disappeared when you stopped eating the stuff you mention above - which is brilliant. I may be wrong, but your symptoms were all those of inflammation. Sugar I believe causes inflammation...

    Hey!

You're bucking the trend, it's normally new folks asking the questions rather than answering them! Anyhow, welcome. There's plenty of advice her of you need it. Don't be afraid to ask. Best of luck
