How many carbs do you have a day?

Most normal days then anything between 5g and 75g depending on what meals we have I suppose the average is around 50g. Special occasions I will do up to 125g and can get away with it just for one day.

Why is type 2 more common in Mediterranean countries?

We had a discussion about this a few months ago. The counties with the worst problems seem to be China and India with Africa becoming a huge problem by 2030. However China is the only country that successfully implemented a regime that controlled T2 to any large extent. It was pretty...

High Carb T2 Diabetes Trial Ends in Failure

I do hope it will get published and like others I don't accept that the experiment was flawed. In fact it has produced results entirely inline with what many of us who have successfully controlled our T2 would expect. The trouble is people like us are never asked how do we control our...

High Carb T2 Diabetes Trial Ends in Failure

I dare say they'll now spend another $200m and take another 11 years to determine what could possibly have gone wrong with the parameters of the study and then do the same thing all over again rather than simply spot that number 55 as the cause. The NHS DUK ADA etc have so much vested interest...

    Dare I ask-saturated fat question?

The NHS itself none but the individuals working within it have loads of motives. A similar thing applies to T2 (and increasingly T1's) test strips. GP's don't want to fund them out of their budgets which effectively moves the retinopathy and neuropathy costs associated with people not getting...

    Fasting Lipid Test

Hi Sam on my last tests mine did that too. They went from 3.8 to 5.5. On that day before the test the last thing I ate was around 8pm and I had the blood taken at 8.30am the next day. Like yourself I was less than impressed so I asked for a retest which I had a couple of weeks later. For the...

    Dare I ask-saturated fat question?

I agree for a T2 who wishes to control BG's largely through diet you have to start off by determining your carbohydrate tolerance. For many people this means dumping quite a lot of their starchy carbohydrates which will of course reduce how many calories you are eating a day. If you get to the...

    Dare I ask-saturated fat question?

The issue is more what those fats are consumed with in my opinion. If you simply up your fat (of any kind) without compensating in other ways then it will undoubtedly cause you problems. If you do it right and lower your carbs when you up your fat then I don't see there is much of an issue...

    Which Type

Hi Simon and welcome. Afraid no one here can answer you what Type question as we're not doctors but here's some general info. Type 1 usually occurs when people are young say around 25 and younger. The symptoms of peeing loads, thirst and weight loss and blurred vision can all be indicators of...

    No carb diet

Now that I agree with entirely. I think we as humans tend to believe we can operate outside of for want of a better phrase are the laws of nature and somehow can both control and be immune from them. It's a remarkably stupid attitude to have when you look back over the 4 billion year history of...

    Where next?

Not sure what the problem is as it sounds like you're doing all the right things :) . If your meter keeps a history of readings tell him you think your new lifestyle is working fine and is sustainable and here are the BG readings to prove it. Tell him you have got those readings and have come...

    No carb diet

I'm pretty much convinced that educating doctors and dsn's in "eat to your meter" would make a great deal of difference. It would overcome many of the political, bureaucratic and vested interest obstacles that stand in the way of progress in this country. I can even understand why many gp's seem...

    HbA1c figures are confusing

Or this one closer to home http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html If you are generally healthy the NHS target is an HBA1c of 6.5% or less in old units or 48 or less in new units. If you get a meter you can also convert between the readings your meter will give you to an...

Just had my first results after diagnosis...more meds :(

That is excellent progress Mau. Remember hBA1c measures the average over the last three months so expect another drop the next time you get one done. If you are hitting FBG's around 6 after 6 weeks that is an excellent result and shows all your efforts are working well.

    Help - Highest reading yet!!!!

Entirely agree with Defren. If low carbing does nothing after say a couple of weeks you need to investigate the possibility of Late Onset or T I. 5
