    Not told about Diabetes

MIL was diabetic. Pills then insulin. So we know how important this is. TBH I'm in shock and incredulous about the complacency of the Medical Centre in question. I've complained to NHS England and they're very keen to get on and investigate them, I just have to sign and return some forms. I'm...

Right, Dr phoned hubby today (about something else). Hubby asked Dr what his blood sugar level was at his last test about a month ago. Dr said "54. ok, considering your age." that was the end of the convo. Now we're even more bemused! FYI hubby is 51

I saw on the form the receptionist gave me that you have to be on medication for diabetes to be exempt. Obviously we'll have to wait and see what the Diabetic Nurse says on the 9th August. I wasn't really expecting to be able to back date the free prescriptions. Our luck is never that good...

thanks HSSS I will keep that in mind. Hubby's BG level 2 hours after eating tonight was 11.1. Not terrible (I understand it's supposed to be under 8.5 two hours after eating?) but not great. At least we have a point of reference to work from now. Nicole, I wish I'd known about the diet link...

    Not told about Diabetes

Today I took in hubby's written permission for me to access his records. Unfortunately they will take days to do a 10 min job of scanning it into the computer (can you tell I'm sick of them yet?). He's sent in an online request for his actual date of diagnosis and to be told his BG levels. No...

I will certainly try to get his test results at the same time, but the receptionists can be aholes at times and might not give them to me, even though we've been married 29 years!! I'm seriously considering moving the family to another GP surgery as they have failed us multiple times over the...

    Not told about Diabetes

Thank you for all the replies. I'm going shopping tonight, so I will read the links and change his diet accordingly. He will eat fat to his heart's content, so I'm glad it's a good food. Unfortunately I have no gallbladder now, so I have to avoid anything too fatty. Hopefully if I change my...

He got a message back from our GPs. They will give him a BG meter and strips, so I'll have to go in sometime this week and pick them up. I will drop off our complaint letter at the same time. Our Gps INSIST we have a photo ID to sign up for their online stuff, it's the only reason I got myself...

    Not told about Diabetes

Thanks. I'd love him to register online, but he's got no photo ID. No passport, he's even got an old paper driving licence! We have no idea of his bg level, as no doctor gave him his diagnosis!

Thanks. He loves fruit and veg, so that's no problem. He does love pies, but pastry is a carb so he'll have to cut down on those. Also, I don't know which fruit he should avoid or eat in moderation. Also, he's bad at not eating at work, then eating too much at home.

    Not told about Diabetes

Hi Guys, I'm not quite diabetic myself (prediabetes but cutting down on sugar), but I need some help please. My husband has been having semi-regular glucose tests from our GP surgery, after being told he was prediabetic. He got an appointment for a Diabetic Eye Screening. Confused, I phoned...
