Congratulations @Nicola M I still remember the feeling when I passed mine (in 1973!!!!!!!!!) First day of the rest of your life.

    Living with non diabetic

It requires a bit of forward planning and being organised - and a freezer.

    Living with non diabetic

Are you saying I am dismissing the challenges others have? My post was an attempt to show there are ways to overcome these challenges, whether in full time work or not. Maybe it is you that is being dismissive of an alternative solution.

This is why "mixed together foods" such as casseroles and stews are best avoided. Cook the meat on its own and the different veggies on their own, and then plate it up separately. This is the easy way and isn't hard at all.

    Living with non diabetic

My husband is not diabetic, and he also does all the cooking for the main evening meal, which we sit down and eat together. Breakfasts and lunches we each make our own but still eat lunches together. It has always been this way, so no changes needed other than evening meals. We don't mix foods...

Yearly blood tests - Is this standard?

It seems some of us are lucky with our surgery protocols and others aren't. I am one of the lucky ones. I don't have to ask for the full set of tests (HbA1c, cholesterol, full lipid panel, liver & kidney, full blood count, sodium and potassium, TSH and urine analysis). They are done...

    Family history question

But do you know how all these people up to 300 years ago died? You have no way of knowing whether they had diabetes or not.

Yearly blood tests - Is this standard?

These days I have an annual face to face review and health check following blood tests that include HbA1c, cholesterol, lipids, liver & kidney functions, full blood count etc etc. I also have an interim blood test for the same raft of tests at the 6 month mark but am not called in for a review...

    Family history question

I am the only person in my direct family as far as I know, back to my great grandparents, to have a diabetes diagnosis. None of them had diabetes diagnosed as a contributory cause of death recorded on their death certificates. Also, until fairly recent times, T2 was not routinely tested for...

    Test results

That is a wonderful drop in just 6 weeks. The HbA1c is a sort of average of blood glucose levels over the previous 2 to 3 months, so part of your last test will have covered the period before you were diagnosed and had very high levels. Well done, keep it up. Are you self testing before and...

Just had a text from my GP........Cholesterol Gurus please advise!

There is a thought that lipids can be raised during weight loss. It was never one of my problems so I didn't look into it, but some on this forum may be able to provide the links for it. It may be worth looking into. Once the weight loss stops and the weight is stabilised, the lipids drop back...

    Statins

If you are trying to lower your total cholesterol by changing your diet, in my opinion you are changing too much all at once. A structured elimination change would give better results. By April when your next test is due, should your cholesterol be improved, how the dickens will you know what...

Tools? Mr Blue has millions of them. Me? I have my own hammer. I have had my own hammer since we were married on the advice of my mum. It is mine, and well hidden so it doesn't get added to Mr. B's tools.

    Very high hba1c level - 130mmol/mol. Help.

Yes, if you test before and after meals there will be no shocks when you have your next HbA1c. You will know what to expect - and it will motivate you to stay on the wagon. I promise you.

    Quickie question and answer...

I use my Accu Chek Fastclix. You can use any lancing device. It doesn't have to be the one that comes with your meter. The Fastclix is the best device going, as far as I'm concerned.

How are you feeling now @JohnEGreen ? Better I hope. Bummer about the fridge/freezer and the flood. I hope you promised Judith a brand new top of the range fridge freezer for all her efforts, although I'm sure you played a part in clearing up the mess, mending the washer, and sorting the food...

I have been true to you all my adult life, but eventually the closest of relationships must end

I was thinking more about the night before my history A level with my friend. Pictures first, off licence next to the cinema, home together with bottles of Babycham and "borrowing" my dad's brandy. I wonder why I didn't pass?

Beta blockers and high blood sugar

Yes, certain beta blockers do cause raised blood glucose levels as a result of increasing insulin resistance. Some types do, other types don't. You may find this interesting. https://gpnotebook.com/simplepage.cfm?ID=x20120516081816351223
