    Feeling so disheartened

Only for some people! Walking always has made me higher!

    Feeling so disheartened

Stick to 2 hours after first bite until you know fully what you are doing. The secret is to test immediately before you eat and then after 2 hours the rise should be less than 1mmol. Without testing before the next test is irrelevant because the higher you start the higher you will finish. Any...

    Losing weight too quickly.

The experts say a loss of 2lbs a week is desirable. You have lost 3 lbs a week, which in my mind is fine for the time being and I would not be worried if it were me. How much do you need to lose? Our weight varies during the day, just like our blood sugar, blood pressure and everything else.

    Evening so all

Congratulations @ally1 this is wonderful news. Well done for your persistence. I am proud of you. :):):):):):):):)

Falsely low or high HbA1c due to RBC lifespan

For diagnosis purposes only, an OGTT would be more accurate, then HbA1cs for reviews. I believe pregnant women are given the OGTT for diagnosis rather than an HbA1c because they may not have been pregnant and prone to gestational diabetes for the 3 months prior to the test and an HbA1c is...

Falsely low or high HbA1c due to RBC lifespan

I am also aware of this and have read up about it in the past as I believe my RBC are long lived as none of my HbA1c results have matched any other way of measuring that I have used over the last 6 or 7 years. All I look at now as regards the HbA1c are the trends rather than the absolute...

    Newly diagnosed and still confused

Congratulations of that huge drop. :) Your new way of eating is what has helped you. Metformin is a very mild drug and helps to a limited extent only, mainly helping to reduce the amount of glucose the liver dumps and to a small extent it helps reduce insulin resistance. It has very little...

    Text from gp

If an HbA1c test is just over the 48 a further test is normally done within 2 or 3 weeks, no later. On diagnosis, my HbA1c was 53 so I had a second test to confirm this. It was 52, so no difference really. Do ask to register for test results on-line. They are normally there within 1 or 2 days...

Who hasn’t seen there GP in years

I was diagnosed in January 2014. I have NEVER seen a doctor about my diabetes. I was diagnosed after a routine blood test for the over 60's and seen by my nurse after this. She told me the diagnosis and has been seeing me ever since. My GP does look at the blood test results after each blood...

    Type 2 Why the discrepancy?

You also need to sit with your legs uncrossed, and the meter needs to be somewhere at heart level for some reason.

The power of fasting blood glucose

Why have you cut out on your fats? Is there a particular reason for this?

    Type 2 Why the discrepancy?

Rather than taking the best of 3, why not average them? Average the top numbers and then average the bottom numbers. Would it be better to take the 3 tests spread out during the day rather than all of them within 5 minutes? You would get a better idea of how you are doing. Our blood pressure...

    Crisps????

I occasionally have a bag of crisps as part of a cold salad meal, but I stick to a packet from a multi-pack. (Walkers). The packets are smaller and have a lot less carbs than the single packets. I never have them as a snack. They don't raise my BS levels by much at all.

The power of fasting blood glucose

I agree with @Rachox A Freestyle Libre would benefit you I'm sure. I wore them for a year or two, but that was 2 or more years ago now. I learnt so much about what was happening between finger tests. Even overnight when I was asleep it was interesting to see what was happening. I noticed in...

Help! What do the numbers mean?

Those numbers indicate it was an oral glucose tolerance test, used in the UK in helping to diagnose pre-diabetes, gestational diabetes in pregnant women, insulin resistance and reactive hypoglycemia. @AshBash123 do you know if it was an OGTT (did you have to drink a glass of glucose after the...

    Blood glucose not going down

I can't see anything for you to be concerned about. Your numbers are perfect. Maybe reduce the carbs again and replace with good fats and additional protein. That would have been a better plan than increasing your carbs when you kept on losing weight. The less carbs you eat the more fats you...

    Little experiment today!

This is one reason why testing is so useful. Testing taught me that I can manage potatoes as long as I portion control them. 3 small new spuds, 2 pieces of roasties, or around 7 or 8 home made deep fried chips (in lard). That was way back in 2014, and still holds true today. It certainly made...

    Routine HBA1C testing.

I expected to have to miss my blood test and review last November, but I received a letter and an email from the surgery saying my diabetes bloods and review were due and I should telephone reception to book the blood test, after which I should ring again to make a telephone appointment with my...

    SWEATING

Many, many years before I was diagnosed (25 plus) I spent a lot of time in my office sweating. I know how awful it is. It was nothing more than the menopause. I have no idea how old you are or whether this could apply to you, and I apologise if I have overstepped the mark with this. It is a...
