What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Hello, thanks for the reply. I use 8units of Glargine before bed, then I have varying ratios throughout the day for my Novorapid to be taken with food. The evening ratio is 0.3 units to 10g. It's worked in stopping my evening hypos before bed. My dietitian has advised I be around 7-8 mmol before...

    New Type 1

Hello, I'm 28 and was diagnosed 4 weeks ago. I'm also on very low dose of Glargine (8 units a day) and novorapid at 0.7 units per 10 grams of carbs until 5pm and then 0.3 per 10g after that. My levels are doing great and I've had far fewer hypos this week and been below 6.5 all week too. I've...

Newly diagnosed type 1 suffering diarrhoea

Hello all, Sorry for the topic but I just had a question. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 1 month ago tomorrow. I am using Glargine 8 units on an evening and Nonorapod with meals. But some diagnosis I've had 3 bouts of diarrhoea. Previous to diagnosis I had this only rarely. Could it be a...

    Reduced carb brownies

The syrup makes the texture better, I used golden syrup in a previous recipe which worked just as well and is cheaper. The syrup only reduces the carb on content a little, it's the nut flour or ground nuts which reduces the batch by 100g carbs.

    Reduced carb brownies

Hello, I've just had an experiment with making a lower carb brownie recipe by adapting a few I've read online. It's turned out really well so I thought I'd share. If you like fudgy, soft brownies you will like these, the texture is different to a flour brownie but closer to a flourless cake. It...

    Newly diagnosed competitive swimmer

Hello, I used to be a competitive swimmer and swam with 2 people who were diabetic. They used to have a mars bar half way through or even every 45 minutes in a long session. You should also try the training powder drinks as they will replace some lost sugars as he drinks throughout training so...

    I really want a baby!

Hello, I was just diagnosed 16 days ago with type 1. My hbA1c was 104 and I was 8.5 weeks pregnant. I miscarried just 2 days after diagnosis. We had a scan on the day which showed our baby was at just 6 weeks development and I was told to expect a miscarriage and that if We didn't lose the...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

@bobneil the diabetic nurses said I was shaking at 5.5 originally because my body had had months of being used to very high blood glucose levels and then a 5.5 was very low for it. That's why I'm not recognising then until much lower now as I am getting used to lower dg levels. I've already...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

I've only been diagnosed for 16 days and I'm on insulin so I've had maybe 20+ in that short time frame. Much better in the last few days though I had 2 yesterday as I was much more active than I have been in the previous 2 weeks whilst I've been off work. I'm finding that I was recognising the...

Type 1: Eating out, how to calculate carbs...

Hello all, I just thought I'd ask people about their experience and opinion of how food outlets give carbohydrate information in store. The reason I am wondering is after visiting John Lewis coffee shop (a place a visit regularly but for the first time since my diagnosis 12 days ago). I went...

Hello, I have my first scan on Monday and reading this has got me worried. I had not even considered that it would be an uncomfortable thing. Can you tell me exactly what they do?

Type 1 Newly diagnosed: dietitian has told me to ignore certain foods

Hello, I have been given some advice from my diabetes dietitian about how to carb count. I completely understand the majority but I find the veg a grey area. She had told me to ignore all veg apart from sweet corn and peas when calculating for my bolus insulin. However I eat a lot of veg with...

Newly diagnosed Type 1 and miscarriage

Thanks for all the posts. I think every nurse and doctor I've spoken to so far is shocked at how unlucky I have been to have the diagnosis and miscarriage at the same time. It's been a tough week and I know from experience with miscarriage that it is just going to get worse. I'm very lucky to...
