Is this a phenomenon anyone has? (caffeine-reactive hypoglycaemia)

But did it put your blood glucose low or high? You only say it was "messed with".

Hypothetical link between unstable blood sugar and psychiatric disorders: direct or confounded?

Do you nowadays have a CGM so you can draw a graph of your glucose values (from interstitial fluid which has a lag time from blood but is still well correlated in a steady-state situation)? Have you ever found that for some foods, older insulin analogs that are still sold may be more suitable...

Hypothetical link between unstable blood sugar and psychiatric disorders: direct or confounded?

I saw your .sig file and you speak of mild retinopathy "mostly because I've had this thing for a while," and also that you eat cake. I apologise in advance if this question is offensive. Is it really because you've had DM1 for a while, or is it because you've had higher-than-normal blood...

Hypothetical link between unstable blood sugar and psychiatric disorders: direct or confounded?

I was reading through your sig, and I saw that you were diagnosed as having The Problem at an A1c of 70 (what's that in the old units?) but your high score was 87. That's weird stuff.

Hypothetical link between unstable blood sugar and psychiatric disorders: direct or confounded?

4.5 to 6 is a rather wide range and tops out at a number I just do not feel well at. My fbgs are usually 4s or low 5s. Add .5 mM for postmeal. I do not seem to be affected by 3s if they're stable, but if I drop into the 3s (or 2s I've seen on Libre but I suspect they actually map to low 3s)...

Hypothetical link between unstable blood sugar and psychiatric disorders: direct or confounded?

Have you found you have to ignore some of the ketone guidelines from healthcare professionals?

Is this a phenomenon anyone has? (caffeine-reactive hypoglycaemia)

Do y'all want me to have another cup of coffee for your entertainment? You get to choose how many scoops of coffee beans I take. I'm basically drinking double cream to which I add a tablespoon or three of Balkan yoghurt (never had a problem with it, it gives me a slight ISFG rise, so this isn't...

That's why this confuses me - but then again I'm a Normal Person™.

Fun. So maybe it's not an insulin-dependent mechanism of action.

Is this a phenomenon anyone has? (caffeine-reactive hypoglycaemia)

I ended up not needing to - I found the baggie of strips I had. I don't know what the mechanism is of caffeine causing a hypo but I have no reason to suspect you'd be vulnerable to it given the metabolic circumstances (my system is, as far as I know, completely normal, whereas you have to...

High enough doses of tea and hot chocolate will do it if you're vulnerable to this.

The CGM and strips are unrelated to the caffeine. I always thought the negative effect was just caffeine being caffeine and I just lived with it. After seeing a hypo on the CGM screen correlated with those symptoms, that's when I got the hypothesis that it was a glycaemic effect.

3.7 is not normal for me on my current régime (dairy-based). I would expect mid 4s. Additionally, I was symptomatic of hypoglycemia.

I found where I put my strips & poker. Apparently hypoglycemia does frazzle your brain! 3.7mM on a FreeStyle Precision strip. The sensor is reading lower but that's to be expected. The trend line displayed by the Libre sensor comports with symptoms.

The numbers are lining up with the symptoms and the last time I did a strip test the numbers lined up with the Libre numbers so... I'm considering the inaccuracy to be presently minimal. And I lost my lancing device - is it safe to, idk, do a test with a bare lancet?

Well this is astronomically stupid. I've lost the baggie I put my lancing device and strips in.

Is this a phenomenon anyone has? (caffeine-reactive hypoglycaemia)

The numbers are less bad when I use less caffeine (from tea and chocolate), to the point where I'm actually functional and not obviously symptomatic (though clearly moderately more cranky). I'm also pulling an all nighter so that confounds things a ton (I sometimes read lower through an all...

Is this a phenomenon anyone has? (caffeine-reactive hypoglycaemia)

Well obviously. I'm going to cut back to just the tea and chocolate, on which I can be relatively compos mentis. Sorry if I seem cranky, I've been at 3.4 mMebg (going off what Libre says; I should probably do a strip test) for at least an hour. I wonder what DCUKMod's hypothesis is on what...

I hate to insult a moderator but, did you even read the post? I've provided data backing up the hypothesis of it actually being hypoglycaemia.
