Exercise, exercise and then do some exercise!

yuck, I'd like to hear your story a year or two years on, when the "honeymoon" period is over, maybe your readings are all over the place, and maybe you realize exercise is not all, or maybe your life changes and you can't afford to exercise so often (children, dependents?). In any case a very...

    Crazy reading post evening meals

Re: Crazy reading post evening meals Hi Rich, apart from splitting the dose (say 70%ish before eating, and 30% after an hour) which could work for the rice in general, the fat in coconut milk also delays the absorption of the carbs in rice. I think the best thing to do is to test a lot until...

    Injecting before eating

The only thing that works for me to remember is a coundown timer set on the phone right after eating.

    Injecting before eating

Jeeeesus, that's advanced dose splitting if that works for you, how did you figure that out?? This makes me angry, It's like there are the game rules and suddenly they don't make any sense do they? I tend to assume that the total carbs of the meal will dictate be the máximum amount of insulin i...

    Injecting before eating

Does that work for you, the pizza, or do you spike later on? if Inject right after pizza I will crash down, as the bulk of the spike comes as late as 4 or 5 hours after eating it, so I have to inject basically 20%insulin after finishing + remaining 80% 3 or 4 hours after eating (which I always...

    Natto?? miso??

Re: Natto?? miso?? Hi Matilda, I'm going out on a limb here, but knowing that pulses are very low GI and tend to release the glucose very slowly, is it possible that miso soup, which is made out of soy bean would slow down the glucose of other foods you are consuming? you know how the GI of...

    Raw potato question

Hi, I just had some mashed potato, I tend to look at picture books to guess the carb content but it's really quite annoying how some foods nutrition values are always given "cooked", it's much easier if i'm cooking to weight the raw potato rather than cooked, which will depend hugely on how...

    Split doses Novorapid

Interesting stuff to think about, many thanks. I have decreased my basal, because I was having a lot of hypos during the day, but would that actually affect the delay in absoption of BG?, the protein might be something to look into, as is the regularity. I guess there is a lot of things that...

    Aspartame

I hate aspartame, even if i gave no creedence to the "scare stories" about cancer, which are a bit shaky, I do hate the taste and the fact that it was pushed and lobbied by monsanto (now the patent has run out and it's manufactured by others too). So I am not objective, but I wonder if...

    Split doses Novorapid

Hi Alaska, It's almost always white rice. I would say the total BG peak has become a little bit less than before, possibly due to the erratic splutter of insulin by my pancreas, possibly due to newborn person in the house, but what is really odd and I can't explain is this delayed effect, which...

    Split doses Novorapid

Hi, Thanks for the reply. That's the thing though, I understand that insulin requirements go up and down, as it has in the past, but what is happening now is different: Before, when I ate rice, my main peak of BG came about 40 min. after eating, now it comes 2 or 3 hours later, even though...

    Stuck in a BG rut!

If you can't tweak the basal, which would be also my initial reaction, then I'd say your best bet is more control of the total amounts of carb per meal?.

Any healthy options for getting rid of a hypo?

I tend to dissolve two/three teaspons of sugar in water, can't be more unhealthy than a soft drink. I have also successfully treated hypos with white bread, this is (in theory) faster than OJ. OJ is actually not a great option, it works, but not very fast (it's ok for 3.5 kind of number)

    Split doses Novorapid

HI, I am a type 1, have been for about 2 years. (novorapid / lantus ) I test quite a lot and have had very good results with split doses of novorapid , to the point where i had nailed down precise ratios for rice, pasta, even pizza. Sometimes the amounts of insulin change slightly, but the...

    MILK and Diabetes

Hi, I was surprised to read about the high content of carb in milk in this thread, as far as i can see in my semi skimmed milk, it's 4.8% carb, that i consider to be rather low, am I missing something?

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

I am a 1 yr old type 1 (so to speak), I have progressively worked my way from 11 (at diagnosis) to about 6.5, the "regular" nurse at my GP still thinks that's high , although my diabetologist is well chuffed with that.

Hello from an underweight type 1

Hi Phoenix, Never knew there were such pens, sound like a good idea! i'll look into that. I do adjust insulin to consumption but i still find that because my insulin to carb ratio is varying ( i am still very much in "honeymoon" period, and so my pancreas is still randomly spitting insulin)...
