Sorry, perhaps I have misundersotod. I thought you said your total cholestrol was 2.5. What exactly is the 2.5 count of? Is that LDL or HDL or total?

    To statin or not?

To be frank, if it is not a lab error, I'm surprised you're still upright. Appointment with Doctor ASAP.

    To statin or not?

I think that is the lowest count I have ever seen. I am not sure if there is cause for concern or not but I would certainly want to speak to someone qualified to assess that figure.

    metformin and itching

Some people do react in this way to Metformin. You have two choices, stick with it in the hope that this reaction is temporary or sack it and use diet to improve your numbers further.

    To statin or not?

Just to clarify, you have a total Cholesterol count of 2.5?

    To statin or not?

Call me cynical but sales of the world's biggest seller statin (Lipitor aka Atorvastatin) have fallen though they are still reining in billions may just be the reason that the guideline levels have been lowered wrt Total Cholesterol. Yeah, must be my nasty suspicious mind again. As you were...

    Which diet?

You can only try. The tweaking phase is sometimes the hardest bit to get right. Eggs are a great idea, full of protein, quick and easy as a meal or a snack.

    Which diet?

Protein will do absolutely no harm to the kidneys. Some people need to go higher protein to fat and some people do better on higher fat to protein. Sorry, that's not much help but it is a case of trial and error. Good Luck.

New Dr. for me and his take on statins

'The damage has been done so let's just carry on and do more damage.' There is no logic in this at all. The risk to benefit ratios of all the adverse effects of statin treatment are by now easily identifiable, do your research and btw see a different GP.

    High insulin and cortisol

If you think you have a problem with blood glucose levels and insulin levels then yes, you should appraise the way you eat. A diet that is lower in carbohydrates would be wise. If you would like advice on what a lower carb diet is then we can help. What does your normal diet look like? If...

    Lipid Subfractions test results

In terms of NNT (numbers needed to treat) the benefit of statin treatment is ~1% in primary prevention. In secondary prevention the number is below 5%. That, of course, means nothing in terms of risk when it comes to adverse side effects of said treatment. Lowering LDL imo serves no purrpose...

    High insulin and cortisol

Metformin works in the background not on the pancreas (the beta cells in the pancreas produce insulin) but on the liver. It is a mild drug that curbs what is known as liver dumps which is a process by which the glucose is supplied to the body on demand. In those with Pre Diabetes or Type 2...

    High insulin and cortisol

Metformin does not reduce insulin levels. Cortisol is affected by stress. I suggest you speak with your Health Care Professionals to get a clearer picture.

    Lipid Subfractions test results

Statins do not lower sdLDL. They increase the number of LDL receptors in the liver, these LDL receptors do not recognise sdLDL. This is my understanding, anyway.

Sorry to hear that, Cumbs. What about a break, the 'nasties' tend to last so little time that this one may be gone when you return.

    Turmeric

No evidence, that I have seen, that it does any harm. Some evidence that cinnamon has a slight beneficial affect.

    Nerve Pain

Any history of sciatica? This can also cause symptoms of numbness, burning, tingling and pain. Worth a trip to the Doc, imo.
