    Jardiance (empagliflozin)

There's also the higher risk of DKA while normoglycaemic. All those on the SGLT2s should not only test blood glucose levels but test for ketones, too.

    1980’s TV Soaps & Drama - Low-fat Brainwashing Begins

We are now in a different era, the era of information. Whether we make good use of the internet/global data etc is really up to us but I have to say that we have to, must, be signposted.

    1980’s TV Soaps & Drama - Low-fat Brainwashing Begins

I hope that this message doesn't get lost. I think that the point is that it wasn't so much GPs or the NHS or even NICE who had the most influence at that time. This stuff became insidious, it was in our living rooms and on the radio at work. Say something long enough and often enough and it...

    Pretence patient diabetes?

Don't think there's anything in the QOF that covers deliberately misleading or misdiagnosing a patient to meet a quota. :)

    Pretence patient diabetes?

What "protocol targets" would these be?

Starting now, Radio 4 Statins to be made available over the counter

And the downsides? CoQ10 depletion, Mevalonate interuption, lowered immune responses etc etc And that is apart from emerging evidence linking low total cholesterol to dementia, Parkinsons and Alzheimers. There are the sometimes devastating results of downstream side effects, too. Risk to...

Starting now, Radio 4 Statins to be made available over the counter

No logic involved. The reason they want to make them OTC is to reach a wider audience (ker-ching). Ignore the (non) science behind them and just go with the consensus view.

    Banning snacking on public transport....

Who is going to police this policy, especially on busses? Education before legislation.

Starting now, Radio 4 Statins to be made available over the counter

I glanced at a paper not so long ago that inferred that there was no lower limit with LDL. That made no sense to me at all (which is why I did not read the paper in its entirety).

Just for clarity - Liraglutide (a GLP1 RA).

Starting now, Radio 4 Statins to be made available over the counter

What annoys is that in the programme they mention that too many people give up taking the drugs or will not take them at all. They do not discuss why this is, completely ignore the fact that these drugs cause side effects and that a growing number of people have read up and make their own...

Hope this link works. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0009387 Sounds like they just might not have thought it all through yet. Whadya think? :(

    Cholesterol and Statins

Good article on the whole messy business. A real Whodunnit. http://healthinsightuk.org/2019/10/08/cholesterol-is-innocent-how-the-real-killers-were-tracked-down/

Starting now, Radio 4 Statins to be made available over the counter

So, OTC Statin treatment is not off the table. No discussion on the veracity of studies citing benefits etc etc just how to get 'those who most need treatment' onto the drugs. And it is not clear (still) who would pay for the drugs, if it is OTC then the patient pays which they say 'may' be a...

    Heart versus diabetes

Losing excess weight is always going to be a great thing to do. Cutting down or giving up foods which provoke too high a glucose spike (that means those pesky oats and lentils) therefore the resulting insulin spike is the way forward. NB High levels of insulin is unwise, too.

    Heart versus diabetes

It is all back to front. Grains and legumes i.e any food high in carbohydrates are inflammatory. There is no evidence that 'healthy whole grains' benefit heart health because there have not been any specific studies of these foods. LCHF and Keto has been proven beneficial for high blood...

    Scared

Could be something as simple as a pinched nerve. These can sometimes even right themselves so see your GP because you may be worrying unduly.

    Heart versus diabetes

I will ask again about your comment on LCHF being (seemingly) bad for the heart. Why?
