    Low Carb On A Budget?

Wow everyone, thank you so much for your replies and suggestions. There are quite a few comments that suggest we are currently over spending on high carb processed rubbish and will save by learning to cook from scratch, shopping reduced items, “making an effort” etc. I’m sure that is true for a...

    First Hypo, Fed Up

See, that’s exactly the sort of info I need to have! I thought a finger prick gave a current reading and it was only the libre that was delayed (I’ve heard that discussed as a downside to the libre) Knowing both are delayed will definitely help in future, thank you. So, how long after would you...

    First Hypo, Fed Up

Thank you, that’s really helpful. Especially the link, I’ll check that out. I think the set doses were because I was diagnosed in A&E with really high sugar and ketones so it was an emergency treatment and meant to be reviewed later. But that won’t happen until the test results come in.

    First Hypo, Fed Up

Ok, I’m on 28 units of Lantus which I take in the morning. Then 18 units of Novorapid with each meal. Started on lower doses but gradually increased to that (as instructed by the diabetes nurse). On Friday I saw the dietician who said I can vary that amount and take more or less than 18 as I...

    First Hypo, Fed Up

I was diagnosed about a month ago but they still can’t decide if I’m type 1 or type 2, which means I’m not being advised to count carbs and haven’t been offered any training or anything. But I’m on insulin, and I have been told to take extra if my blood sugar is high or less if I’m planning to...

    Low Carb On A Budget?

Is it possible to be low carb on a very small budget? I feel like I’ve lost all the cheap ingredients that turn a small amount of meat into a filling meal (pasta, rice, bread) and while I would love to replace that bulk with more meat, cheese, cream, eggs etc those are all pretty expensive in...

    Type 1 Or Type 2?

Ok, I certainly have excess weight but had lost 2st in the couple of months before (following slimming world). I lost 8 1/2lb the week before I was diagnosed, which made no sense as I’d been steadily loosing a pound or two a week prior to that. Talking about C-peptides they are saying the...

    Breastfeeding With High Blood Sugar

He gained a lot of weight, he was with me in A&E when I was diagnosed and even there the nurses commented. I’d been saying I couldn’t understand it, he looked like a baby whose been over fed formula but he’d had nothing but breast milk. Also he started feeding every 1-2 hours round the clock...

    Breastfeeding With High Blood Sugar

I was diagnosed when my baby was 5 months old (he’s six months tomorrow) so obviously my sugars had been very high for a time before diagnosis and are lower but still not normal now. I know sugar goes through to milk and noticed some effects on him but I can’t find any info beyond “it’s fine if...

    Type 1 Or Type 2?

Hi everyone, I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes for a couple of weeks now but they still haven’t decided if it’s type 1 or 2. For background: I had an hba1c about 3 months ago and it was 6.1. Two months later I’m in hospital with blurred vision, sugar so high the meter won’t give a number...

    Newbie, Please Help!

Just hoping for some support really. To go back to the beginning, I had gestational diabetes but it went away when my son was born. When he was 13 weeks old I had an HBA1C and it was OK. So that was that. Then last week (2 months after that test) I got ill and ended up in hospital with my...
