Low-Carb Diets – What Is Missing?

Yes, KaMon - that's the crux of the issue for 'many' of us. LowER carbing, at some level, is a must for 'all diabetics' -as I don't think that there are many of us that still eat 300g of carbs a day or more as is the 'daily recommended intake' for 'normal people'. So to some degree - the truth...

Newly diagnosed type 2, could really use some help :/

I'm passionate about the most accurate information/standards being shared with new folks. The worst confusion and potential bad choices then - come from data, interpreted/stated in such a way as to minimize the seriousness of their condition (not on purpose of course)- whatever the condition of...

Are you really going to keep saying that 'most' non diabetics hit these levels when even your own data states caveats like they were of 'higher BMI' than normal, etc.. Probably prediabetic by any medical standard out there. It is a 'fact', Sid, no matter how much 'caveat bearing data' you bring...

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

You make a good point about this being a Poll thread and getting too convoluted. Good point, KaMon. But I'll tell you this. Threads about our disease, progression, etc, thread after thread of 'opinion', uninforned by science all too often - are not threads I will pay too much attention to...

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

   EXCELLENT, KaMon!! Well said! Though I will say - for some this issue really DOES matter. And there was only 'conversation' and 'discussion'. Discussion is not 'one upmanship'. Clarifying one's position to another that hasn't understood what you've said yet isn't...

Again, I won't take the bait on the comparison of the 2 health care systems. Each has strengths and weaknesses. But as to test strips they're so cheap on the Internet. Can't people there just get more shipped in? Or are there tariffs, etc..? They don't require a scrip to order on the net.

For obvious reasons we won't get into THAT hornet's nest conversation... That's sadly true in the US too, Viv..

Fair enough! I accept you at your word there.. Please don't try and draw inconsistencies where there are none. You are comparing 'single words' used in different sentences with their 'own' "clear and obvious" contexts which may 'contrast' but there are no 'inconsistencies', Pianoman, on that...

Thanks for the education about the state of things there, Viv. Very helpful! Wow -- T2's with NO meters at all is the goal??? Whew.. That makes me glad to live on this side of the ocean...

Another reason to watch those carbs...

I completely agree with KaMon here. I was not injured in any way.

Nice re-direct of subject! The main point of my challenge to you was about inconsistency in one's reaction to 'hyperbolic wording' in general (i.e. okay to use 'starvation' in contempt for this diet but not ok for a moderate carber to say 'ultra/extreme low carb' when describing how many Ds eat)...

Sorry to disagree (I think), KaMon. People who are still elevated above 7 or 8mmol after 2-3 hours are pretty much "prediabetic" by any medical Dr I've ever consulted out there on this topic or whose work I've ever read. Ask your own. I think they'll agree. Please don't attach links to 'blogs'...

This is actually not backed, Sid, by any science I've ever read. A non diabetic even after the most carby and high portioned Christmas dinner will never move above 6.9-7.0mmol anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours after the meal and then will be back to fasting levels (4.15-4.7mmol) between 1.5...

    600 calories to "reverse" Type2

Good challenge, CMichael. I should have been more precise to say 'ANY REVERSAL' of the type this study noted (fat deposits on organs - HBA1c steady even after weight gain, etc). By adding the 'ANY KIND' I overstated and thereby confused. Let me 'rein in' those types of statements and be more...

I'm gonna bet that the anti-depressants are 'in' this equation, Matt. And as Lister suggested, it's possible your body's reacting differently to them now. I have that happen with my acid reducing meds for my stomach about ever 1.5 to 2 years one of them stops working and the heartburn returns...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

LOL!!! Yep.. That's precisely why a lot of docs started prescribing Metformin for T1's too. Get that liver dumping under control.

Morning team! 6.6 this am.. Uggh.. Now that I've stopped my Lantus my 'Dawn P' is back in full swing.. But again, DawnP is a 'human natural reaction' to the cortisol squirt we all get that's intended to wake us in the am.It's just we D's have no (T1) to poor (T2) First phase insulin responses to...

Another reason to watch those carbs...

Actually no, KaMon, I wouldn't have reacted that way at all. We live in a time where anything that has 'any religious' overtone to it - makes people 'react' is such a way.. It's an 'overreaction' to me - but that's another matter. I DO hear you.. Really I do.. And thanks for clarifying a lot in...

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

Though this 'bunny trail' would deserve its own thread - I have to say that that conclusion (prolonged intake of energy in excess.....) -- which I've found to mainly resonate among those with the 'ultra lo carb/high fat' ethos of D control (and often driving that as an 'agenda' for all) - aren't...
