Hi and Welcome, As others have already stated were all very different. I've been on many different diets over the years and they don't all work the same for everyone. At one time I tried Slimming World and stuck to it religiously, for the first two weeks I lost, then I started to gain weight no...

    Stomach burning. Metformin?

Hi, I suggest you go back to your GP and get it checked out to be on the safe side. It could be the Metformin if they say it's probable then ask to go on the slow release tablets, changing worked for me. Good luck

    Sugar binge - help!!

Hi, Don't beat yourself up over it too much I've eaten a lot worse (hence type 2), sometimes when were feeling low or fed up with things it's so easy to reach for that sweet snack we have been depriving ourselves of. Try avoiding having it in the house or if you need something sweet then choose...

Bipolar Disorder and type 1 Diabetes

Congratulations on loosing two stone Paul. I was put on Olanzapine over the summer and put on 3 stone in 12 weeks, my consultant told me it was impossible!! Which I'm convinced helped to push me into becoming diabetic? But I can't prove that. It's good to hear I'm not the only one to gain weight...

Prescription for test strips & monitor for Type 2

Hi and Welcome, I was diagnosed at the end of September, Type 2 on Metformin. Both my GP and diabetic nurse told me not to test and it wasn't necessary, I would only gain sore finger tips. They refused to give me a meter to so I bought one from the local Boots. Most chemists sale them but the...

    Yet more changes to meds

Hi Rob, Thanks for the suggestion, I wish I could, but I just can't have a little bit even if it's plain chocolate as I love it too much and can eat bars of it at a time unfortunately, for me I'm better trying to abstain, just a little sets off a binge. Nice you thought of me though. Maggie

    About benefits

Hi and welcome. I've been on benefits for many years having had a break down and diagnosed with severe depression. The NHS kept my job open for two years but had to finally give up on me returning. I went straight on ESA and have been in the support catagory ever since. I know I wouldn't survive...

This is the link I've just tried, give it a go https://www.evidence.nhs.uk/formulary/bnf/current/6-endocrine-system/61-drugs-used-in-diabetes/612-antidiabetic-drugs/6122-biguanides/metformin-hydrochloride It states that 2G a day is the maximum dose for both standard and slow release. Maggie

    Yet more changes to meds

Hi Tigerlily, Just a suggestion re loosing weight as its working for me is to half the amount of rice, potatoes, pasta etc basically all carbohydrates and obviously I've stopped eating most sugars, although I'm still eating fruit. In 7 weeks I've lost 1st 3lbs. Its been fairly easy to maintain...

    Amount of Metformin taking

Hi Jude, I'm taking slow release, 1G in morning and 1G at tea time which I'm fine on. However, everyone is different and need different doses. I'm fairly sure no one would put you on a dose that you didn't need. However, I thought 2G was the maximum amount in a day for Metformin but I may be...

Trying so hard but hit a brick wall

Hi, For one reason or another I have been on most diets, since I was about 8. It is very difficult to keep hearing that your problems; no matter what they are; are always claimed to be down to diet. Its almost as if some doctors are obsessed by it. I don't think its the cause of your tinnitus...

Is slow release Metformin easier to tolerate than standard?

Hi, I was on ordinary Metformin and had bowel issues, I've since been taking slow release and had no problems. I would recommend the slow release, its certainly worth a try before moving on to any thing else. Good luck

    New to metformin

Hi Brian, Well done for just managing on diet for so long... maybe your body just needs a bit more help now. Being put on Metformin is not all doom and gloom. Doctor's Advice

I saw my GP last Tuesday and told him I was considering changing over to a LC diet, as I haven't fully committed to it yet. He said there had been a lot of research done on it recently and if I wanted to then give it a go. But he didn't suggest an amount to reduce it by that was down to me. He...

    Hip Pain!

Hi there, I know your only young but have you considered it may be arthritus, I only ask because my cousin was unfortunate to be diagnosed with it in his 20's. It could simply be a ligament tear that is being aggravated every time you move in a certain direction and subsequently not having the...

    aching joints

Hiya, If the sunshine made a difference and as the weather here has gone cold and wet, have you considered you may have some arthritus? Just an idea, I'm no expert on it but I'm having more joint pain than usual and my GP has taken a blood test to see if that's the cause of mine. So it may be...
