    Broccoli...

I'm going to be the doom-monger here, but I really don't like broccoli as a rule. To me the texture is like sucking a wet jersey :( . However, the good news is that one time staying at a little farm hotel in Avignon they served us broccoli as one of the vegetables with our meal. It had been...

    Bill's Travels

I'm going to take a short deviation today as we received some great news this morning. Our friends in California suggested that we do a house swap in the summer, but we had to wait a while as it was necessary for them to consult their financial adviser to see if it would feasible given the...

    Nosebleed

And as a PS, I just took my blood pressure and it was 119 over 68, so it's not a blood pressure problem. Further evidence for me that Sue's posting was probably right. Everybody else's posts were very much appreciated.

    Nosebleed

I think you've probably hit the nail on the head, Sue. By nature I'm not a worrier so I'll wait and see if it occurs again. :D

    Nosebleed

Many thanks for the replies so far. My blood pressure is normally between low and very low. I haven't suffered from any signs of a deviated septum and I'm keeping my bs under control. Thinking back, I had a violent sneezing attack last night so some damage may have been caused to my nasal...

    Nosebleed

This morning, just as I stepped out of the shower, I suffered a heavy nosebleed. I haven't had one since I was a kid so I was wondering if it was part of the 'diabetic experience'. I was diagnosed Type2 in April last year, was started on Glucophage (in the UK it's called Metformin) and two...

    Bill's Travels

While I was working as a National Serviceman in Tavistock Square, I took part in the biggest underwater search ever undertaken up to that time. A little girl named Brenda Nash went missing on her way home from the Girl Guides. For a while there was absolutely no trace of her so the police asked...

    pancake day

That's a good tip, Suzi. I love pancakes so I'll be giving it a try. In California I found a sugar-free pancake mix and a sugar-free maple syrup substitute. Sadly, it was just before we left so I didn't get to try the effect on my bs levels. :(

    Any Beatles fans?

For me the Beatles ushered in the era of incomprehensible lyrics. Does anyone remember the days when not only could you hear the lyrics, but they were worth listening to?

Among my memories of RAF Hereford two stand out. The first was the heating in the billets, which was by a stove at each end. Anyone who has seen Arnold Wesker's play "Chips with Everything" will recognise the following, but it is true, so our experience wasn't unique. Each hut received a ration...

Thank you for the compliment, Sue. I followed the rule of thirds and was so happy with the result that I set it as wallpaper on my computer.

Yes, the Bracklesham Bay holiday camp is still there - or it was 10-12 years ago when we were passing that way. We didn't go in, just had a noss around from the outside and it certainly seems to have changed over the years. So in 1959 I had just met my future wife and had returned from a skin...

Just had another thought, Suzi. You now have the perfect response should your doctor ever ask you if you have trouble passing water. You can quite truthfully say that you once had a funny turn going over the Bixby Bridge.

    Bill's Travels

I'm keeping my eye on that *+!^^ autocomplete this time. My journeys in my early teen years were mostly on family summer holidays. Our first holiday after the war was in 1949 - a week at Pontin's holiday camp at Sand Bay, Weston-super-Mare. We visited Cheddar Gorge, Wells Cathedral and other...

Thanks Sue, I'll remember that in future. And Suzi, that bridge is the Bixby Bridge on Big Sur. If you watch Clint Eastwood's film Play Misty for Me, he drives over it in his beautiful Jaguar XK.

Sorry about the size, Sue. Seems I didn't reduce them in size enough. I'll try again later.
