Hi there, Keesha. Many thanks for your comments. Like you, I cannot believe how far to the right GB is moving, and the racial hatred that is rising in so many places. I have read of tourists speaking to each other in their mother tongues and being harangued by British people shouting at them to...

Thank you, Keesha. It was a time of great cruelty and it is sad that the sacrifices of so many were necessary to put an end to such abominations. What I cannot understand is why so many children had to be murdered. I’ve always thought that the absolute duty of any human being was to protect the...

    Bill's Travels

We had another art deco breakfast and after that had a free morning. In the afternoon we had booked onto a tour taking in the places where Operation Android took place. For those who are a bit shaky on events during the Second World War, I can say that this operation showed the utmost in courage...

    Bill's Travels

Breakfast next morning was an interesting experience as the service was, if I may describe it as such, an art deco experience. The gentleman who greeted us would have fitted right into Grand Hotel. He looked like the archetypal greeter from any number of films featuring hotels from that period...

Thank you to everybody who have sent me a pm. I do appreciate the encouragement, although Jackie would say that I need very little encouragement. But then again, in November we'll have been married for 57 years so she would say that, wouldn't she? ;-) After dinner that evening, our last of the...

I'm sorry, Julie. When I first read your post I thought you were missing your ancestral home.:angelic:

Yes, Keesha, good food and laughter (to say nothing of a good wine) go hand in hand in cementing a relationship, even one where love is the main ingredient. And I shall continue taking your advice. I will most certainly carpe the diem as long as I am able. Thank you for being a kind and lovely...

    Dangerous Avocados

This is true. Avocados share this ability with spaghetti Bolognese, tomato soup and Magnum ice creams.

    What's Your Opinion On This...

Well, bsandie, when we moved into our present house it hadn't been changed since it was built in the 1960s. The tiles were sky blue and the sink, bath, shower basin and toilet were hot pink. We had everything ripped out down to the plaster and a whole redesign with a wall demolished that gave us...

    Paraprosdokians

Just remembered another one, from a film but I can't remember which one. "The only exercise you ever get is jumping to conclusions." Well, it made me laught.

I should have also said, Keesha, that living in southeast Luxembourg we can be in Germany in 10 minutes, France in 10 minutes and Belgium in 20 minutes. And as someone with relentlessly itchy feet the temptation is sometimes too much. We sometimes take off to do some shopping in Trier...

    Bill's Travels

Well, Keesha, let me see... In September we're going for a week in the Black Forest as we haven't been there in many years and we're booked into a Gasthaus only 27 kms from the highest waterfalls in Germany. Then Christmas we'll be spending with our son and d-i-l on the southwest Atlantic coast...

Just remembered another one: I used to be conceited but then I realised it and now I'm the nicest fellow you could ever meet.

Yes, Julie, I loved it too, but I wish there had been a few more people in the theatre.:***:

The last horror film I went to see was when I had an afternoon to kill in Brussels and went to see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. When I got inside the theatre I realised I was the only patron so there I sat watching a seriously horrific film totally alone. That's really creepy, believe me.

    Paraprosdokians

Sadly not my original joke but from a Goon Show many years ago - The speaker was a man with a military bearing, which he tossed in the air and caught.
