How do I get back on track?

Hello, I agree with @Goonergal - reaching out is a great first step but you have also started the second step which is testing so you are ahead of where you were. First of all you are going through a very worrying time so be kind to yourself. Read about the spoon theory - I found it really...

Need a bit of a boost

I second @lucylocket61 that your symptoms may not be related to your diabetes. Worthwhile talking to your doctor. Also finding out your HbA1c is always worthwhile.

    Every Day Carry

I'm a type 2 with diet and metformin. I take my meter pretty much everywhere I go- not for walks but if I'm going out. I still test regularly though probably not necessary- it keeps me focused. Other than that-nothing diabetic related- phone, e-reader, water etc. No bandaids for me- allergic

    Confused

Hello and welcome, Yes when first diagnosed itv can feel very overwhelming g and you are right there is a lot of contradictory advice that people give. You have been given the link to @JoKalsbeek nutritional thingy which is a great read. The best thing is to trust your meter. I started by...

    Thank you

Great results! Talking about diabetes can be challenging as there is a lot of judgement t about it. A bit like mental health had a few years ago. We need to be better about talking about it- not only to help those who have it, educate doctors but to help those with the genetic predisposition...

    Diagnosed today - confused

Hi @Kimbo20 Welcome to the forum. It can be very overwhelming when diagnosed and also stressful. Yes you have had less than stellar assistance from your doctor though to be frank there are many here who have not had great help or advice from their doctor. So you really should get a meter...

Good result - thank you, forum members

Well done! that is such a great result. My personal view only is that you will always have to be careful of your carb intake but as @Goonergal said- eat to your meter. I personally would carefully consider which carbs are worth including in my daily carb intake and which were not. Fo me pasta...

    Newly diagnosed at 26...

Hello and welcome, As someone very young and not overweight have they done the tests to rule out that you have type 1 diabetes? If so that's okay but just wanting to make sure. You have had some good advice from @JoKalsbeek so that's a good place to start. Read around the forum - and yes as a...

Newly diagnosed and wanting some advice

Hello and welcome, At the beginning I tested obsessively. At least 7 times a day. I still test regularly at least 3 times a day. My reasons for testing so frequently are that it keeps me on the straight and narrow, it shows me when I am coming down with something or stressed, Three times is the...

    P:E dieting

Coming late to this thread but I am thinking of giving this a try- have bought the cook (Kindle - @Goonergal you were right about the cost of the paper version) Will do some reading over the next little while. I lost a lot just going low carb but more to lose and it's being stubborn.

Newly diagnosed type 2 drinking question

Hi @rickydoo - are you on any medication? Most type 2s who are not on any medication don't need to worry about hypos. In relation to having a few drinks my tip is to keep it low carb so gin and soda water or diet tonic water or Diet Coke with Bacardi are probably my go too when out. Some wine is...

    Got diagnosed 3 days ago

I'm another 55 year old woman who eats more protein than you have suggested. The important restriction is the carbs the next important thing is not to be too hungry. I have gone very low carb so less than 20 grams of carbs a day and usually much less. I agree that diet doctor is a good place...

When to give in and go on meds

Hello and welcome, Unfortunately as @Dr Snoddy said a HbA1C in 3 weeks is unlikely to show much difference. My suggestion is to get a meter and log your meals and your levels. I dramatically lowered my levels quickly by dramatically cutting my carb intake. A meter gives you quick feedback and...

    The future seems ... boring

I have to agree with the previous posters. I do remember feeling like the future of my food was boring and occasionally I still feel it. I also still struggle with going out for dinner and just having what I could have at home- so you are not alone. What helps me is a couple of things. I...

Are you going to get vaccinated?

People, can we stay on topic please? The topic is: 'Are you going to get vaccinated?' and the question asked was: 'In your case, is there any reason to believe that vaccination will interfere with your medication or following lifestyle?' Further derailing will be removed.
