    Can hypos make you vomit?

Hi I'm just wondering, has anybody felt like vomiting or actually vomited due to a hypo? I had a bad one the other day and I felt so sick to my stomach. I'm not sure if it was due to having to eat soooooo much sugar so quickly, or whether it was as a result of the hypo itself. My BS went down...

    vaccines and diabetes

One of my pet theories about the development of diabetes (at least in some subsets of patients) is to do with modern diets, specifically wheat/gluten..... See for example.... http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/content/58/8/1723 http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/co ... /1789.full...

    vaccines and diabetes

What happened before the development of vaccinations? Diabetes has been around for centuries. Diabetes was first recorded in English in 1425 (according to that reliable source Wikipedia :D ). I don't think that they had vaccinations back then. Personally, I didn't get the standard childhood...

    The case for multivitamins.

Hi Ally Thanks for your reply. A private doctor requested the blood tests. The vitamins levels were taken using blood samples (and handled correctly/covered up from the light - I watched the phlebotomist). Tests were serum Vit A, 25-Hydroxy-D and Magnesium. I have read in the literature that...

    The case for multivitamins.

In theory this would be a great idea but many people have problems getting their vitamin levels tested by GPs. I asked my GP and was told that vitamin testing is 'alternative medicine'. I got some of my vitamin levels tested privately and found I was deficient in several important...

    Testosterone patch to beat diabetes

There was a longer article about this in the Daily Fail. If 40% of T2 men really are testosterone-deficient, then it is worrying that Testosterone screening isn't part of routine testing. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... ibido.html

    Video from Thiamine Researchers

This video is short and interesting on the deficiency in thiamine that is found in diabetics of both types. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNRaFjdeuZk

    Memoir Pen

There's a Canadian Pharmacy that sells the Memoir pen for $110 (US) that ships worldwide. I think they are still producing them for the American market.

Can the insulin pen be improved??

Yes that's the pen. It seems it is on sale in the US. http://www.medscape.com/infosite/humalog/article-3 But it only works for Ei Lilly cartidges. http://www.tudiabetes.org/profiles/blog ... apting-the I think the design is a bit naff so if you could come up with something a bit more modern...

Can the insulin pen be improved??

I really want a pen that records when the last dose was given and how much was given. I am very forgetful and sometimes I can't remember whether or not I took my nighttime dose of insulin. If you could incorporate a little digital screen, that would be very helpful. If I didn't take it then I...

Is Type 2 a progressive disease?

Thanks guys for you input. It's very helpful to know that we do have some say in the development of progression. I'm T1 but due to my family history of T2s (grandmother, father, soon-to-be-mother), I worry that I will develop T2 as well. Goji x

Alert bands. An essential piece of kit!?

If you've only got one alertable condition then the medibands are a good idea. I have several allergies as well as diabetes so I bought the cheapest medic-alert bracelet with engraved disc, removed the disc and attached it to some home-made beaded bracelets that look really nice and match my...

Is Type 2 a progressive disease?

Hi Just wondering, is Type 2 diabetes a progressive disease? ie. Does the body become more and more insulin resistant with age or does it level out at some point? thanks goji

    OMG !!! Not again !!!!

Hi Leona I saw in your profile that you are taking levothyroxine and in your previous messages that you are 4st overweight. I was wondering, do you feel that your thyroid function is fully optimised? Apart from the weight gain, do you still have any of the symptoms/signs of hypothyroidism...

    microalbumin test?

Hi Just wondering - is the microalbumin urine test something that Type 1s should get? If so how often do you do it? Also is it sent off to a lab or is it something your GP tests in the surgery? Thanks Goji

Non-Profit PhD study -could anyone help please?

Hi Kathryn Your study sounds interesting. I would apply but I am Type 1. I am just interested to know how you can be sure that the participants are truly eligible if you only take their word that they are in fact Type 2 diabetics? What's to stop anyone from filling in those forms? Thanks Goji

Type 1s and 2s to be reclassified....

The quote is taken from the article. I understand that some Type 1s have a honeymoon (I was one of them) but if doctors do the right tests on diagnosis (eg. Cpeptide or insulin levels) then you'd think it would be fairly clear what kind of diabetes someone has.

Type 1s and 2s to be reclassified....

Found this article today that says: http://www.healthcarerepublic.com/news/ ... reRepublic I don't see how they could have got so many type 1 diabetes diagnoses wrong? Why would anyone classed as Type 1 not be put on insulin? Goji

    Treatments for other Autoimmune diseases

Lots of my thyroid forum buddies are taking LDN, it seems to help with all kinds of autoimmune things. Though it is early days yet. Sadly, as there's no money to be made from it, it's unlikely that any big pharma company will want to do clinical trials needed to prove its efficacy.

how can you lose weight healthily as a type 1?

I lost about 8kg just from low carbing and I'm not particularly strict ( I was thin anyway). I low-carbed by default as I cut out gluten and I think that contributed to my weight loss. Bernstein's book is a good resource for low carbing although he is waaaay strict. Try not to get too hung up...
