    Levemir users - suggestions please

After 10 years or more on Lantus I was finding it's effects more & more erratic. My GP agreed I should try Levemir. I changed about 10 days ago & initially I was quite pleased. Importantly it seemed to have stopped the abrupt dips towards hypos which I've been struggling with - my Dexcom means I...

    CGM Advice

Yes, the Dexcom will ask for 2 calibrations a day, maybe an extra one if it's not "happy" for some reason. The xBridge software is a bit tricky but you just need to follow the guides carefully.

    CGM Advice

The xBridge voltage should appear on the xDrip screen. Mine however always shows 100%. I haven't got round to sorting this out - almost certainly my mistake. I haven't really checked the range but perhaps 3 or 4 meters between each? I have found that since my phone was updated to Marshmallow bg...

    CGM Advice

I have the G4 & wouldn't be without it. I usually get about 3 weeks, sometimes a bit more. If you are self funding the G4 is significantly cheaper than the G5 because the transmitter only lasts 3 months - it then switches off. The two G4 transmitters I've had, each lasted 13 months. Like Tim I...

    CGM/GM Price Comparison

Tim, I think you need to correct the G5 Transmitter life on the update. As I understand it they only last 3 months?

Dexcom in the UK & Lower prices

Dexcom have now opened an office in the UK & will deal direct with customers, taking over from Advanced Therapeutics. Their PatientUK letter attached. The prices are interesting!

How do you compare to average BS levels

I wonder what Belgium is doing to be so much better? Last summer I had a conversation with some newly qualified doctors & their attitude was "well most people won't even try". The implication seemed to be "why bother?" Very depressing.

    difference in readings

Blood test meters are not particularly accurate. New ones are +/- 15% older ones +/- 20%. However your readings do look a long way out. Were the readings taken at the same time? Had you washed & dried your hands before each test? Try repeating the double test & see what happens. It could be that...

To be honest I'm surprised the readings are as close as they are!

    Dexcom G5 -vs- Libre

If you are self funding the G4 is cheaper simply because of the length of time the transmitter lasts. G4 transmitter is guaranteed for 6 months, but the two I've had each lasted 13 months. The G5 transmitters cost the same in the UK (£360 each from AT) but stop after 3 months - a big difference...

    Non invasive glucose device -sugarbeat

The technology sounds like an update of the Glucowatch from around 20 years ago? More competition has to be very welcome.

    Success!

I think the last sentence in your first post is very important. CGM gives you the confidence to try things you wouldn't previously do on blood tests only. You can see the effect & do something about it if you find you are heading for a low.

So do I, but it would be nice not to be the subject of the experiment at least occasionally!

Risk of hypo vs risk of hypers

Take a look at http://www.diabetes-book.com/laws-small-numbers/ Dr Bernstein is an advocate of low carbing. I'm too fond of my food to do this fully, but I have tried it for odd days & have no doubt that what he says make sense. Your Dexcom is great for doing experiments. I know it's difficult...

Risk of hypo vs risk of hypers

Hi Catapillar. I know from past experiece how tiring big bg swings are, you must be exhausted all the time. The CGM was a good move. Your basal may still be a bit high - what does your Dexcom graph look like overnight? Looking at your post breakfast experiences it strikes me that 80gm is quite...

    The blood glucose level high

Hi bigjoe, I'm guessing that you are fairly newly diagnosed? I assume you are also doing a once or twice daily injection of basal insulin - something like Lantus or Levemir? My instinct is that this needs to be increased, but if you are new to this I strongly advise you to talk to your diabetes...
