Really really stupid - Missed Levemir dose

From experience, strange illogical things can happen in these sorts of circumstances. The insulin you've taken which seemed to do nothing can stack & come back to bite you when common sense says it should be out of your system. Hopefully it won't happen to you but keep doing the checks - your...

Really really stupid - Missed Levemir dose

Follow Robert's advice, making sure to do extra testing. Take this evening's Levemir at your normal time.

Really really stupid - Missed Levemir dose

Now you are really confused! I hadn't seen Robert's reply, which is equally valid.

Really really stupid - Missed Levemir dose

Ok so you are now 2 hours 50 minutes late. I would take your morning dose now (perhaps reduced a little to 14u) , then take your evening dose at about 8:25 ish. Gradually getting back on schedule. Tomorrow morning return to your normal time. Do a bit more testing than usual just to be sure.

    xDrip Bgs on my phone

xDrip is a combination of the box I built and an Android app which you can see in the photos shown earlier in this thread. It works very well. Stephen Black created it: http://stephenblackwasalreadytaken.github.io/xDrip/ It also allows you to access the wonderful NightScout project...

    Trying to get a CGM.....

No, you don't need a letter to buy a Dexcom. Talked to Advanced Therapeutics - John Hughes is helpful & knowledgeable. Obviously iIt wouldn't work with the Smartguard feature though. Personally I'd say that if you are completely hypo unaware, you ought to have a good case for getting a CGM.

    Cgm help

I have a Dexcom. I'd go as far as saying that for me, it was life changing. Certainly wouldn't go back to life without one, though there's no denying that it is very expensive.

    Breakfast spike please help me

Could you give us an example of her readings at and after breakfast?

    Alcohol

"So now your liver and pancreas are pretty much out of the picture" Hi Diamatic. Nice explanation. I wonder how quickly the liver cuts down glucose production after drinking alcohol? Also have you any idea how long it takes to process a given amount of alcohol before it can get back to...

    Dexcom Sensors

Several months ago (October?) I had a brief conversation with John Hughes of Advanced Therapeutics. I was saying that though I loved my Dexcom I found that some sensors were much better than others. He replied that part of the sensor manufacturing process was done by hand, accounting for this...

    DexCom monitor / Apple watch

If you go with the xDrip option you can see data on and Android or iPhone. If I had one, I could view data on a Pebble watch with others coming soon. It can also read a Share receiver (if it becomes available here) in which case you don't need to build the xDrip box. There's a good description...

Fight the spike vs avoid spikey food

This part of the DIYPS project makes interesting reading with regard to spikes: http://diyps.org/2015/03/26/how-to-do-eating-soon-mode-diyps-lessons-learned/ It takes time & organisation to do it & of course extra injections, but I have had some success with the technique if I'm a bit high as...

    Trialling Dexcom G4 CGM

They only mention iPhones but I would have thought that they would add Android at some point..

    Bit of a breakdown

I've been doing this for 20+ years & since first diagnosis there was the promise of a cure in about 5 years. Obviously it hasn't happened BUT I really believe that things are finally starting to improve. Not a cure yet, but faster acting insulins including inhaled ones which don't need to be...

    Trialling Dexcom G4 CGM

Good question. One to ask Animas before you commit to them. If you have an iPhone, the G5 will work with it.

Dexcom G4 CGM - transmitter check?

I meant a sensor to "make the circuit" with the transmitter which is what you did with the new one. I'm not sure my DIY skills are up to the battery replacement though I might ask around amongst friends to see if anyone fancies giving it a go.

Dexcom G4 CGM - transmitter check?

It just says "Transmitter Battery: OK" & shows the transmitter ID I got my transmitter from Advanced Therapeutics so can't help there. Don't suppose you've kept an old dead sensor you can try..

Dexcom G4 CGM - transmitter check?

Thinking a bit more, your idea of starting the sensor without inserting it might work - there will probably be errors but as long as you can get to the Settings/Device Info screen you can check the battery If it doesn't work "Stop Sensor" should get you out of it. All at your own risk of...

Dexcom G4 CGM - transmitter check?

I'd say try it as usual. If it works, great. If not, well I managed to swap to a new transmitter half way through a sensor's life. You have to be careful but not too difficult.

    xDrip Bgs on my phone

I tweeted Stephen Black & asked about this. His reply was: "It just reads the signals that get sent out every 5 minutes no matter what, no impact on battery!" Yes we need those faster acting insulins as soon as poss.
