    xDrip Bgs on my phone

Yes those are interesting thoughts. You mean that the receiver may send an acknowledgement of successfull receipt, thus stopping the transmitter from wasting battery repeating the transmission. If you are right, my xDrip box may well shorten the life of the transmitter & at £330 or so each...

CGM is the most effective method for monitoring and treating diabetes

I know that I lost around half a stone when I sorted out my (MDI) basal dosage. As well as using less insulin, if basal dosage is too high, as mine was, you end up correcting it with snacks leading to obvious effects on weight.

    Trialling Dexcom G4 CGM

I would not want to be without a CGM that's for sure. Good luck with the pump.

CGM is the most effective method for monitoring and treating diabetes

That's an aspect I hadn't thought of. I wonder if that has an effect on weight?

    Out for dinner...

£72 per person! That would send my BG levels soaring! Yes, a very nice landing, always satisfying when it works out like that.

CGM is the most effective method for monitoring and treating diabetes

I think most of us have been "naughty diabetics" at some stage. Very few people are given CGMs, unfortunately. However it's worth asking. Not sure if your pancreatic surgery might help your case. Seeing live figures on your CGM can be very motivating, though of course it also clearly shows when...

CGM is the most effective method for monitoring and treating diabetes

Not sure about "CGM rather than pumps" (I've never used a pump) but I agree wholeheartedly with your other points. Perhaps a CGM should come before a pump in order to identify problem times like the dawn phenomenon.

    xDrip Bgs on my phone

As HaroldC says the xDrip box has a range of about 6 metres similar to the Dexcom. At the moment I have the xDrip in a plastic box about the same size as a glasses case (see first picture) but it would fit in something much smaller when I find something suitable. I don't think a metal glasses...

    xDrip Bgs on my phone

No. You just need the xDrip box & your mobile - nothing is wired up. The xDrip receives data from the transmitter on your sensor & converts it to Bluetooth which your phione receives. In practise I carry my Dexcom as well though, the xDrip is experimental.

What am I doing wrong? Hypos!

In that case I don't think it is the Lantus timing as the peak would be late evening. I imagine it is the delayed effect of the exercise. If I understand correctly, you are hypoing pretty soon after eating? If so you probably haven't yet started absorbing the carbs from your food. Do you take...

What am I doing wrong? Hypos!

What time do you have your Lantus? It may be that it's activity is peaking during the evening which is coinciding with the after effects of the run? Your bath will also speed up the absorption of the insulin. Your insulin dosages are small which limits what you can do - if you take 1 less unit...

    xDrip Bgs on my phone

This is what a dying sensor looks like on xDrip: I decided it was time to put a new one in! Hope your sensors arrive soon Spiker.

    Trialling Dexcom G4 CGM

It is such an eye opener isn't it? I've been using one for over a year & would not want to be without it. Re the trend arrows though I sometimes feel that the arrow can be misleading when compared to what the graph is showing.

    CGM/GM Price Comparison

It really is down to how much life you can squeeze out of a Dexcom sensor - some people get a maximum of 2 weeks. So for them it would be considerably more expensive. And of course, you don't know until you try it.. For some reason I don't do as well as I used to, a couple of my recent ones only...

    xDrip Bgs on my phone

I've been using my xDrip for more than a week now & it seems to track the Dexcom receiver pretty closely. It's useful that xDrip continues to work when I have to do the 2 hour restart to continue using a sensor. Good for me as I seem to have a disproportionate number of problems during that...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

Please don't throw the sensor away - it may be a better one. Otherwise ignore the actual readings & do some experiments. e.g. when your readings are nice and steady (no insulin/exercise/other food) eat some fast acting carbohydrate e.g. 2 jelly babies. This equates to about 10gms of carbohydrate...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

I understand your frustration but all the readings you've mentioned could be within the stated accuracies of the various devices. Your blood test meters are only required to be accurate to +/- 20% . So in your last post, if the true value is say 6.0 then either of the blood meters could give...

    Trying to understand body

The precision of your meter (or lack thereof) is very significant. At the moment BG meters are only required to be accurate to +/-20% So if your "real" blood sugar is 12.0 your meter could read anywhere from 9.6 to 14.4 & still be considered acceptable! Though, in practice, they will usually be...

Saving my pennies.... But is it worth it?

Just realised you are using the Libre at the moment & not Dexcom. Must learn to read one of these days.

Saving my pennies.... But is it worth it?

Tim, Build yourself an xDrip. It's not that difficult, though it's fiddly & you need to follow instructions carefully. You can then see your bg on an Android phone or/and a Pebble watch. Much cheaper than the Apple option unless you are already a user. I'm treating it as an interesting...
